Renfrick1 I love my solo exhaust. For a 3.8 it's sounds awesome

Ya I finally killed off my photobucket account and went to Imgur lolz..... So much better.

Spacers are garageline (15mm front/20mm rear), PBM comp coils. I just recently lowered the car another 1/4" all around (max I am going) and then got slight rubbing on the plastic wheel well liners (actually quite bad in the front where it was marking the outside of the front tires). So I cut some clearance with a dremel - pretty quick and easy. Not more rubbing

Heres a few pics of how it all sits currently and one before everything...

Well here is my latest one. Had a pinhole in a weld so was up on the lift getting that touched up (why there is all that carbon on the pipe). Is it the "best" you can get? not at all.... Welds could be better, could have mandrel bends, yada yada yada..... But it's inexpensive, sounds excellent, is light weight and gives the car a lot more edge. If you are worried about show undercar looks, then this wouldn't be the setup for you. But if you are like me and could care less (I mean I do care, just not if it's all shiny and all), then custom is a great alternative. It's for sure not as pretty as Life forms' setup or most of the off the shelf systems. BUT it is one of a kind sound.....

Anyway pretty simple: 2-1/4" duals from 2nd cats to center perforated resonated x-pipe (magnaflow #11385 ) then 2-1/4" pipes routed to quad angled 3" tips (believe it or not the tips do affect the sound a little bit - (the pops and bangs come to mind).

Another great video I like is this one from a dude at Magnaflow, tons of mythbusting and overall good info in this video: https://youtu.be/RWTARjxiqlo

Whatever you do have fun with it

Nice parts selection, I'm sure your exhaust build was WAY cheaper than ours and it still sounds great. Listened to the vid on my bigass stereo (screw headphones!)

I swear, the Genesis Coupe V6 sounds way better with "muscle car" style mufflers than "import tuner" style mufflers. Every GenCoupe V6 I've heard with something like Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Cherry Bomb or our own SpinTech muffler just sounds excellent every time.

Oh, and good job picking the right tube diameter. Dual 2-1/4 inch tube is the correct size for the 3.8 V6. Seems like most folks who go custom use dual 2.5 inch pipe, or even dual 3.0 inch, which gains you no extra power and loses you a lot of exhaust gas velocity which means reduced torque down low.

Everyone who does a custom exhaust needs to READ THIS CHART!

As you can see, dual 2.5 inch pipe is just complete overkill unless you are going turbo/supercharged or a BIG nitrous kit.

Do it right and custom is just the best way to go. GenCoupe custom exhaust for the win!

Go for SpinTech Mufflers! The custom muffler on Project Hoondy was made by Spintech. They make all their products to order, so whatever shop you work with can specify the exact size they want. SpinTech works with all tube sizes, stainless and aluminium, even oval tubing. Their pricing is competitive with other American exhaust companies like Flow Master, a little more expensive, but their products are higher quality in exchange.

SpinTech has been a de facto maker of muscle car mufflers since they first got into the game back in the 90's via Sterling Marlin’s NASCAR team. Everything sounds more badass when you put a SpinTech muffler on it, from this big-block Chevelle:

...to this weenie little Mazda 3:

Get you some SpinTech!

Happy Tuning!

Almost none of the off-the-shelf options available for the Genesis Coupe emphasize a lower, more muscular sound.

Solo Performance is the only kit I know of that produces a muscular sound on the GenCoupe:

This is mostly down to their use of an old-school H-pipe, which is much more of a hot-rod thing than an import tuner thing:

That's about the best you can do with a kit. Straight pipes with a couple of really good resonators, like Vibrant Ultra Quiets, will also produce a very muscular sound.

For to most muscle-car sounding V6 possible though, you have to go custom:

Happy Tuning!

Since it's a V6 it will never sound like a V8 or higher. Best advice is to straight pipe it and slap a resonator on it to make it deeper. Maybe get new headers and wider mid pipe

CGintheGC I took the muffler off my gen, really did enjoy the sound, so mean.. But the low rpms driving regularly are so obnoxious when I am only going 35-40.. Can I do anything to prevent that? Have yet to make a decision

jcusmc619 You will have to get a test pipe

klingerjames Ok, so i have a tad bit of a nooby question to ask... I'm currently in the search of upgrading to a full turbo-back exhaust. So far I am going to go with the CNT Racing V3 Cat-Back Exhaust, ISIS Stainless Steel Downpipe, and ISIS Stainless Steel O2 Housing, for my 2011 2.0T Genny.

Will i have to get a test pipe as well to complete it or will the downpipe bolt directly to the catback?

You may not find a kit that you want. so find a exhaust shop some where around your home town or big city and stop in and they should give you a free estimate. If you live in NC HIT ME UP! my boss has been bending pipe to fit any car or truck (race, drag drift, off road mudd, rock) needs for over 30 years. I run a 2.0T That has single high out, the v is just as easy to work on, just a little more in price.

inbox me you if you need any info. we have friends from NY to California.
I was reading your comments in the exhaust thread. Do you know of any good/reputable shops in the Raleigh/RDU/triangle area? Thanks in advance!
