orenj9 It seems like there are some lightly modded, ie., tune and exhaust, 2.0Ts that are running the quarter mile with stock automatic 3.8s. However, the 3.8s seem to be gaining the same number of tenths on the same modifications.

Kamkaze for the 2.0t you need basic bolt ons (intake, exhaust), then turbo upgrade and reflash. Probally wouldn't hurt to upgrade the fmic too.

You can argue a reflash/tune both ways, as being a bolt-on/mod and as not being a bolt-on/mod. You're maximizing what parts are there. You're not really bolting anything on. Although, saying that it is freeing up power that is already there could mean anything that is a bolt-on. You could say that all exhaust systems and intake systems are are restricrictive, especially those from the factory. Tuned right, you could drop your intake, drop your exhaust, make lots of power, and you'll only be freeing up power that is already there. Is that a bolt-on? You didn't bolt anything on, you un-bolted and tuned it.

That's not the argument though.

You could do the tune/reflash on anything, but you still have to compare apples to apples. Both cars/engines seem to respond just as well as each other to bolt-ons and to tune/reflash. So, the deficit is the deficit, no matter if stock, or with any amount of money/mods/tune you throw at them. It's 96hp no matter how you look at it.

Now if you want to compare the limits of the two motors once you drop over $7K on each of them... well, then maybe there isn't such a large deficit... Although, only time will tell... as no one is yet selling a $7K kit for the V6.

Maybe you should be looking at this thread to see at which point in money/mods/tune the deficit goes away:

Torque is not at 2.0's advantage... it's all about area under the curve... peak number is for paper racer.

The R-Spec is targeted at a different demographic than the 3.8 Track. Heck, even the 2.0t Track is targeted at a different demographic than the 3.8 Track. You can't compare them, it's not just the motor and performance bits that differentiates them.

At that, $1500 is not going to give you the 96HP deficit the 2.0t has to the 3.8


Haven't we beat this thread/topic to death though? Seriously?

In terms of limits, obviously. There is no replacement for displacement.
In terms of cost, the 2.0t is miles better. Same HP, more TQ, less weight...all for thousands less.

The 2.0t vs 3.8 thing will simply come down to personal preference. I modded the **** out of my previous (still current until I buy my 2.0t Track or R-Spec) car, and realized that I want something fun from the start. I can easily justify spending $1,500 on an exhaust, intake and retune to better the performance of the model that's $6,750 more (2.0 R-Spec vs 3.8 Track).

Read the PA article the clutch and fuel system has been taken into account, the gearing your right on though.

Kamkaze I believe at numbers like that you will be getting into serious $$. You will need to do a very serious clutch and I highly doubt the tranny will hold that kind of power. As far as I know there isnt any aftermarket gearing or dogboxes etc available.
