Competition Clutch Stage 3 for 3.8 V6

Hey guys, just making a review on the first production CC stage 3 kit for the v6 3.8s here. I have a '12 3.8 R-spec, recently exploded my clutch at 35k, raced for 2 years on the track. My sponsor shop got in contact with Competition Clutch and got me a clutch kit for the 3.8 so I'm making a review and YES it is available in stages 1-5 TFworks.com - Real Racing parts. I believe this kit is available with just the clutch and single mass flywheel, which is what I got. I would call and ask for Mike to double check on the pricing for those as it may not match what is on the site.

First a couple of pictures. I do not have the actual picture of the stage 3 clutch, but it is on the shop website which I just took it from and throwing it on here:

Exploded oem:

CC Stage 3:

First impression after 500miles:
Clutch pedal is a lot shorter and firmer. Not too harsh as a stage 4, but not too soft like the oem. Seems like a good balance of street and track which is what my car is, Daily driver/weekend warrior. Engagement point is a little higher up and you have a very small window. Might just be me on the small window of engagement, but it just wants to grab and go.

Acceleration-wise, due to the flywheel being much lighter, rpms zing up quicker and drop quicker. Accelerating in any gear, you definitely feel the extra 15-20 pound weight reduction in the flywheel.. Easier to match rpms heel-toeing/downshifting and smoother as well. HUGE improvement shifting through gears as there is not much delay between shifts as there was with the oem. Broke traction going into 4th gear with a passenger in the car(Tires are 265/40/18 AD08s in case anyone was wondering)

Overall, very impressed, and a huge jump from oem. I have yet to go to the track yet but when I do I will further review, as well as when it gets broken in a little more. I will also reserve a couple of spots and do a side by side rev test with a stock dmf flywheel from a friends car, as well as a video going through gears. Stay tuned.

Any clutch chatter? And how does the engine catch the quick falling rpm? Does it drop low to where it may kill?

LOL hmm... my butt dyno says.. a whopping increase of 5whp! Honestly I want to see a dyno comparison from when I got tuned 2 years ago and now. See how the power band changes, if any, at all.

Yes there is clutch chatter, worse with AC on, which the chatter comes in cycles. It's not terribly loud, you can barely hear it with the windows down and music off. With the AC on though, music at volume 4 will cover the chatter at its loudest. Engine catches the rpm fine. I'll post up a video once I get to record my friends 3.8 with the stock setup

Figured I'd do a review after since its been a couple of months about 8k miles on the car.

Clutch is broken in completely. Takes a little bit getting used to since the oem was so soft, but anyone that has driven a car with a stage 3+ clutch, not a stranger.

Rpms still zing up quicker as the SMF is about 7 pounds lighter than the DMF. Still chirping going into 4th gear on a hard pull. Can't test this in 5th because it'll just grind and lock me out. No issues yet. No I have not dynoed to see if there were any power gains either.

Replacing OEM clutch, what clutch should I get?

Hi All,

I have a 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT with original clutch, tranny and engine. The only technical mods are performance exhaust and performance air intake. Car has around 65K on it. I put it away for winter so its never seen snow or salt.

My clutch seems to now be grinding when going into 6th gear when accelerating (usually when going onto the highways). I made sure I am pressing clutch all the way down but it doesn't matter. So I am guessing my clutch is on its way out.

If I have to replace the clutch, I am thinking of going with a performance one. Any suggestions for me?
If any of you are wondering if I plan to put money into getting a turbo or supercharger to increase hp, the answer is I would like to at some point just not right now.

So thoughts?
