Need help purchasing a Gen Coupe!

Hey everyone, I’m new here and I’m in need of as much advice as possible right now. I really want to get a 2013, maybe 2014, gen coupe 3.8. Not sure if track, ultimate or r-spec is best, so any advice on that would be nice. But my main concern here is that I know you can really only get them used now, is it a good idea to still try and get one in 2018, or 2019 I should say? I’ve started working 2 jobs and I’m saving my ass off, this is my dream car basically, so I’m doing whatever I can. I know CarMax has some and I’m not really looking to buy off of Craigslist or anything. But what would you guys do? I also don’t know how reliable trying to get one right now would be since I know there could be people who hadn’t taken much care of it. I’m not really sure where to start looking, or if the 2.0T is better than the 3.8, but I think I would prefer the 3.8. Any help would be nice, thanks guys!

I wouldn't get from carmax or any of those similar companies. There are some back end calculations that do that basically labels the car's price higher than it's worth.

2013 and 2014 version of "ultimate" is basically the "track" version.

Go to nadaguides.com to get an idea of around what the ACV is.

Where should I even check to find one? All I see within like 2 hours of me is carmax, I don't really see any anywhere else.

Best thing to do is to drive to different car dealerships. I’m in Ohio and you’ll see a genesis pop up at a Chevy dealership all the way to a jeep dealership. I got the autotrader app and just picked the kind of car I was looking for and found mine.

I am selling one but it is in Texas, not sure how close you are to go test it. It is on consignment.

Seems like it, lol.

Well I cannot post it on classifieds because I am under 50 post/90 days so since someone is looking specifically for one like this...

2013 track 38.5k miles, stock and for sale in TEXAS.

It would be worth going for the 2014 over the 2013 if you want the manual transmission. The 2014 comes with upgraded carbon synchros. The manual transmission is (generally) the main issue with the 2013 and below vehicles.
If you want an auto, I think they're pretty much the same.

I have and like the 3.8 but that's just personal preference. They seem to be pretty reliable from what I hear.

2010 3.8 Track,
Konig Hypergram, Nitto NT05, Trans Mount, Engine Leash, Diff Bushings, Intake, Powerstop Track Pads, Braided Brake Lines, Tien Lowering Springs, CAI, Thermal Gaskets, Stripped

You didn’t say how far you’re willing to travel, but obviously trying to find one in milder climates will pay long term dividends. AutoTrader is always a good bet, or even a national dealer network like AutoNation.

I have and love my 3.8 R-Spec. The only thing it lacks for me is cruise control, because I am in my car constantly for work. If you’re not into track days or performance driving, then Brembos aren’t a necessity, but that was something i needed. Leather, sunroof, and touch-screen radio I think are the other major options. And a spoiler.

Hit us back up when you find one, and we’ll give you a couple of simple must-dos to make the car reliable and enjoyable to drive and own. Good luck!

I highly recommend CarGurus.com I found my beautiful Bk1 2.0T there and drove 4 hours to pick her up, and it was well worth it.

You can also search for used cars on the Kelley Blue Book website (kbb.com).

I'm not sure if others will agree, but you may also want to consider a certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle. They typically cost a bit more, but have gone through (from what I understand) a thorough inspection, and can come with an extended warranty.
