  1. Dropped tool in engine bay...

    2.0T Discussion 2013 and up
Do you have one with a flexible neck? I've found those to be much better than the telescoping tools that stay straight. I have experience fishing for stuff in the engine bay and those have been a life saver.
  2. Mobil 1 0w40

    General Discussion
I just picked up four 5 quart jugs of 5W-20 myself from Walmart. I've had no issues getting the rebate checks. Those plus some Mahle filters from Rock Auto give me synthetic oil changes for under $20.
  3. Jacking up whole car off of all 4 wheels

    General Discussion
Thanks for the info. I have some of those rubber jack stand pads from Harbor Freight, hopefully those should help.
  4. Jacking up whole car off of all 4 wheels

    General Discussion
If I place the four jack stands under the pinch welds is that too dangerous?
  5. Weird Bubbly sound! Please Help!

    General Discussion
Is it possible you have air in your coolant somehow and you're hearing it in your heater core? Maybe try bleeding air from the system?
  6. ATF Drain and Fill for 3.8L ZF Transmission

    General Discussion
I'm planning to do an ATF drain and fill for my 2012 3.8 (60K miles) that has the ZF transmission. I think I have the procedure down for the most part after watching several videos and reading the service manual. I'm planning to pick up 6 quarts of ZF Lifeguard 6 which should hopefully be...
  7. Automatic Transmission Fluid Flush

    Drivetrain
Do you replace the drain plug and fill plug with new ones? Also, it seems that the torque spec for the drain plug is 8 N-m which converts to only 5.9 lb-ft? Is this correct...seems awfully small for something as important as a drain plug.
  8. ZF Auto Transmission in bk1 3.8

    General Discussion
Did buying 6 quarts end up working out for you all when you did a drain and fill on the ZF transmission? Also, do you recommend replacing both the drain plug and fill plug when doing the drain and fill? From what I understand, these don't have the typical copper crush washer and have gaskets...
  9. Looking for Right/Passenger Side License Plate Lamp Housing

    Purchasing and Orders
I'm looking for just the housing for the right passenger side license plate lamp if anyone has one available. I have a 2012 3.8L Grand Touring if it matters. The piece looks similar to this (one in pictures is for left side):
  10. Transmission fluid for 2010 3.8 6 speed auto??

    General Discussion
I'd go with the ZF Lifeguard 6 transmission fluid if you have the 6HP19 ZF transmission. I'm planning to do a ATF drain and fill soon and will probably be using this. I know thectsc.com sells this, but haven't really found anywhere else other than Amazon that stocks this stuff
  11. Oil Temp PID for OBDII scanners

    2.0T Discussion 2008-2012
Will transmission oil temperature be a default value on the Torque app or do these need to be added manually by referring to the PID? I need this to do a drain and fill on the ZF 6HP19 transmission which apparently requires checking level at specific temperatures.
  12. Burping the cooling system

    General Discussion
I posted this in another thread about burping the coolant, but I use a Lisle no-spill funnel since it becomes the highest point in the system once you fill it up halfway. I start the car and burp air out by squeezing the upper radiator hose. Then I drive it around for 15 minutes or so and top...
  13. best oil

    3.8 V6 Discussion 2013 and up
Ok gotcha. My only "mods" are a Fumoto valve and K&N air filter lol.
  14. best oil

    3.8 V6 Discussion 2013 and up
No prob. Also, if you typically use the OEM oil filters that have the part number 26320-3C30A, they're the same thing as the Mahle OX 351D. You can get them for a few bucks cheaper on RockAuto. My local dealership sells them for about $11, I think the ones on Rock Auto including shipping are...
  15. best oil

    3.8 V6 Discussion 2013 and up
FYI, Mobil 1 has a rebate running right now (typically have them twice a year). $24.77 for Mobil 1 from Walmart with a $12 manufacturer rebate means my oil runs me about about $13 per oil change. I usually pick up one or two 5 qt jugs when they run the rebate and just keep around.
  16. DIY - Bleeding Brakes

    Suspension and Wheels
0.7 to 0.8 qt according to the owners manual for the older models. Probably similar for yours as well. I use the Valvoline synthetic brake fluid, which I have seen recommended on here for my car which is used as a daily driver. I usually grab a 1 qt bottle and an extra 12 oz bottle just in...
  17. Coolant in Overflow Tank Diminishing Over Time

    General Discussion
Is this generally the case for coolant reservoirs in most cars? I always filled halfway between "F" and "L" when car is cold since it was never clear from the manual.
  18. Non-Brembo Rear Brakes

    Wheels, Tires and Brakes 2008-2012
Thanks, I was able to see the gray star wheel after taking off that rubber plug. I think I remember you mentioned torque wrenches being overrated in another thread. I have a 17 mm combination wrench for the caliper bracket bolts since I can't get a socket and wrench down there. These have a...
  19. Non-Brembo Rear Brakes

    Wheels, Tires and Brakes 2008-2012
Will a regular screwdriver work for turning the star wheel? I took a peek inside the hole and thought it would look fairly obvious, but I'm having trouble locating the star wheel. I might need to look harder though.
  20. Non-Brembo Rear Brakes

    Wheels, Tires and Brakes 2008-2012
I was able to replace my front brake pads and rotors, but need to get the rears done. The brakes on my 2012 3.8L are non-Brembos. The rears seem a little more complicated of a job than the fronts. Any tips on getting this job done from those who have done it? In particular I'm concerned...
