for those who have a 160 deg thermostat and an afr guage ,how did it effect your afr;if any at all.
Exactly right. Just throwing in a colder t'stat was old school for making more power on a N/A engine (the factory only ran them hot so the emission control systems would work better). Todays engines are so much more complicated than that and just changing the t'stat will likely hurt performance because all the other engine systems will try to compensate for what they see as a "fault" and you would probably even throw a cel.OT a bit, but 160* thermo is 100% pointless unless you have a complete retune for it. Evos and STIs have shown a DROP in power after installing 160* thermos. Our cars HAVE to be warmed up to a certain temp for the ECU to allow full boost, advanced timing, etc. Throw a 160* thermo in there and it'll take longer to get up to proper operating temps. Your cars tune is designed to run around a 180* thermo. Hyundai designed in safegaurds against running cold and you're making the car run colder for longer. Say no to 160* thermos, IMO.
