I've used two kinds of wrap. One that you had to wet and wrap, and one that you just wrap it tight dry, both were made by a company DEI. They've both done their job greatly and kept heat away from where it needed to be. As far as how they hold up in winter I'm sorry but can't help you there. Maybe try and jerry rig your oem sheild by hacking it up to only cover that spot you are worried about?

 

Yeah I thought about chopping up my oem shield, but where it rubs against the exhaust is right over the bushing in our drive train, which is rubber inside and has a rubber boot going to it. So the section I'd have to cut would be the most (if only) sensitive area.

 

so try wrapping it isnt really gonna hurt anything. people have spat off about it trapping moisture and weakening your pipes lifespan, but I haven't run into any of those problems

 

Yeah I guess the other option is to heat the hangers and try to drop the exhaust down an 1/4". Just not sure how that wrap would hold up.

 

Well took it into n exhaust shop to try and make some clearance, they couldn't do a whole lot without chopping it up. So for now I'll run without the heat shield, they seem to think there's enough clearance between my exhaust and the driveshaft bushing.

I could always gets that section of the pipe ceramic coated?

 

I just took off that heat shield, hasn't had any adverse effects. Many others have done this as well.

 

I've got a roll of DEI wrap with Lavarock tech or whatever, may also have that spray and some t-bolt clamps still laying around. It's all brand new as I bought it for a SS turbo back and ended up going with an aluminum catback. If you're interested, let me know.
