New to the forums and new to the genius coupe. I bought my 2010 Coupe July of 2015 with 60k.

In the beginning for June 2016 I came out to a dead battery. Went to start *click click* but then the radio came on real dim and it seemed like the alarm started to sound with the hazards going of but only making the slightest of sounds. When I went to jump it the horn started to go off so I took out the horn fuse jumped it and no problems.

About a week ago I went out to my car after work and no unlock nothing, thought my remote was dead turns out the car was 100% dead from when I drove it in at 7 am, went to my car at 9:30am and locked it, then tried to leave work at 3:30. My co workers and I went to jump it again but same issue with the alarm sounding but all in all we got it jumped and ive been driving ever since.

Yesterday I went to auto zone to get the battery tested and the gentlemen who tested it said it was my alternator and my battery was only charged 37%.

So here's my question with my minor knowledge in cars. How can I have a bad alternator and still be driving around thinking it is a bad battery. Thank you in advance for the help.

It's very possible the alternator is bad and still providing some electricity, which is why your new battery is only at 37% and not 90%. I've had alternators go bad and because the battery was new, it felt like everything was normal, until that battery was so depleted that nothing would work again and I was stuck with another bad battery AND bad alternator.

I may of chose a poor choice of words but I do not have a new battery. I still have the battery sold with the car.

Then I would assume a bad alternator as well. Rephrasing my last post (edit), I would also hit up a Napa Autoparts, or O'Reilley's and have them test as well. Even Advance Auto.

You have a functioning OEM battery after 6 years? That must be a record. As was stated I would have both the battery and alternator tested, but I really cannot believe your battery lasted this long. That turns my suspicion towards the battery, but a thorough test is best.

So after 4 hours of my car sitting at work we went out with a multimeter and tested the battery. It read a 10.5.

We then started the car and got a read from the alternator at 14.4.

We then turned off the car and the battery read 11.2.

Safe to say it's the battery?

Yes it is most definitely the battery. Replace it as soon as you can because it is running the alternator at near full output.

30 minutes after testing the battery and alternator we went back to the battery and it read 10.7.

I will be purchasing a battery on my way home tonight. Thank you all for the
help.

8 years on an OEM battery. I just turned 57 and I do not think I have ever heard of a battery lasting that long. My tractor battery does not do that well and I store it in my garage during the winter. That is awesome.

My mower battery is an AGM Odyssey brand, It's over 12 years old. I use to boost it in the spring but it doesn't need it. Putting it on a charger and it is fully charged in a few minutes though. Sits out in the shed all winter.
