Anyone have a btr tune? How did you go about getting it? I am wanting to order the btr stage 1 canned tune, but it seems like I will have to send in my ecu to get the immobilizer code copied. I'm wondering why the sfr tunes don't require this?

even though you buy another ecu you will still need to send in your ecu to put the immobilizer code on the new ecu. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's the only way unless you go to a tuning event. I do have a btrcc tune and went for the custom at a tuning event. Contact SFR/ BTR but I think they both need you to send your ecu.

I know with the btr you definitely need to send in your ecu, regardless of if you're getting the tune on an extra ecu. It seems that you don't need to with the sfr, but not 100% sure.

I 've asked both SFR and BTR about sending in ECUs.

With BTR you definitely do, regardless of whether or not you buy a spare ECU. They were adamant that this is a necessary step for a "proper" tune.

With SFR I don't believe you do, - but you do need to send them some additional info if you're in Canada.

I'm not sure why the immobilizer would be an issue for one and not the other, but that's what I've dug up so far.

I think stopping by a custom tuning event is your best option... that's what I'm planning on doing.

I emailed 10fintec about the BTR tune and they got back to me:

The only way to get around the immobilizer copy over is to order the canned tune and let me know that you don't want to send out your ECU and we will get the tuner to send out the new, tuned ECU to you. Then you would have to take that tuned ECU to a dealership and ask them to put your immobilizer code onto that ECU. Only a dealership can put your immobilizer code onto an ECU. It's a less than 5 minute process and usually I recommend people tell the dealership that you bought the ECU as a backup ECU and you want the immobilizer copied onto it. Just make sure they don't do any ECU updates on it or else the tune will be erased.

Our tuner is coming to Canada in May so if you want, we could get you to send your ECU to Toronto where we are and we can get him to program the tuned ECU here. At least you won't have to wait for a few weeks without your ECU. The wait time for your tuned ECU would be significantly cut down. We have to ask him if he's willing to do that for us but if you are willing to wait and like the idea of a shorter wait time, please let me know and I'll ask him and find out if it's ok with him.

I don't think I like the idea of taking a tuned ecu to the dealership though haha

I wouldn't recommend that.

Yes, they can but you are basically handing them a red flag with your name on it.

I don't understand then. How do so many people in Canada order SFR tunes, and not have to go through this step???

Spoke with 10 fintec over the phone and they said I could just order the canned tune on a new ECU if I don't want any downtime. Only downside is having a $400 paperweight.

So basically what "maze28" said.

It seems like the sfr tunes don't need the immobilizer code copied for some reason. I don't know why btr does. But it is annoying. I might just bite the bullet and send in my ecu. I'm hoping I can borrow the girlfriends car for a few weeks. I really want the btr tune

Yeah I'm planning on ordering the turboxs O2 housing and race pipe. I want the stage 2 tune, but you need a full 3" turbo back exhaust. And I already have the ark grip 2.5" catback, which sounds awesome. I don't really want to buy a whole new catback exhaust. So I'm kind of screwed.

Ya I made sure to get a 3 inch catback if I did just incase. Sell the ark and buy a turboSX RS. That's what I got. Planning on getting the race pipe but idk about the down pipe. I kinda wanna keep my turbo warrenty and if it blew for some reason lord knows they will blame that.

Yeah I might have to sell it. If you're wanting the stage 2 you have to get rid of both cats. I'm just gonna keep my stock O2 housing, and if something does happen just swap it back before I take it in. Kindof a bitch but worth it if warranty work needs to be done
