The specs as far as sensor resistance needs to match the OEM sensor specs. For a wile I ran both sensors and toggled between them to make sure the readings were te same.

Is there a specific spec that we can look for when trying to find a fast acting IAT sensor? I'd like to find a smaller/compact form factor sensor that I can stick in a TB spacer or somewhere in the air box without making a big hole.
You're looking for a thermistor type sensor with an exposed sensing element, how small those can get I don't know. If you still have coolant flowing through your throttle body you'd want to tap a port for the sensor in the intake manifold to capture the additional heat the coolant adds to the incoming air charge. If you have bypassed the coolant then you can tap the manifold, modify a throttle body spacer, or tap your intercooler piping. Tapping the manifold will probably be the most time consuming whereas removing intercooler piping is a piece of cake.

Here is what the stock sensor looks like under the plastic. This was the from my 2014 3.8 in the airbox. Here's the thing, after I exposed the glass bead (a did a little more clean up after I took this photo), I saw absolutely 0 difference in the readings. So either 1) The sensor is in such a piss poor place that it misses any airflow 2) the IAT sensor is actually in the MAP sensor in the manifold. I'm guessing it's going to be the latter. I started the car and the intake read 75 until long after I started driving. Outside temps read 67* in my garage and dropped to 58* outside. I drove around and it stuck at 68* on the intake. I sat in the garage and let it heat soak until intake read 80*, then drove around the block (it's a big block) doing a quick WOT pull and absolutely 0 change in intake temp, but as soon as I pulled into the garage, the intake went up to 82*, so I believe that the intake air temp sensor is in the manifold on the GDi motors.

Can anyone confirm/deny my assumption? If it's not in the manifold, why do I not see any change at all after exposing the bead?

IAT is INTAKE air sensor and is in the INTAKE manifold

the one in the air box in the ambiant air sensor...and will not change that much...

on a NA car it will not vary that much, anyway

that's what I thought! It didn't make sense why it would be in the air box. I was wondering where the AAT sensor was located. Ok, back to the garage.

nope, not in the intake manifold. at least, not as part of the map sensor. i don't recall any other sensors in the manifold.

yeah 3.8 could be a bit different im used to turbo lol

ps i just looked at the drawing and yes the map sensor in the intake doesn't seem to have a temp sensor into it or at least not used

the barometric sensor as the temperature sensor

does 3.8 comes eith maf? If yes, it'be logical to place iat sensor where maf is for na

The sensor in the manifold is just a MAP (only has 3 wires) and the one in the air box is a baro + IAT. I tested this by turning the car on while heat soaked, pulling the sensor from the airbox and blowing on it. The intake temps dropped almost instantly.

Edit: BK2 V6 GDi

Can anyone with the upgraded PRW MAP sensor confirm if readings have less delay?
Now, that your are talking about the PRW sensor can you confirm that it is a plug and play sensor. Looking at Bosch map sensor diagram from their website it seems the connections are inversed.

Probably not polarity sensitive as it is only a resistance type sensor.

Was about to buy a sensor, but I see the following. Which do I get?

yes they react a bit faster and yes the pinout is the same

i had the same reaction at the beginning...from what i remember hyundai and bosch are reverse pin numbering ...

but for BK2 3 bar are not a perfect match ... there seem to have a small diference at idle...it was messing up my fuel trim when i was idling for a couple of minutes

i tried changing both sensor (before and after throthle)

for now both sensor are in a box somewhere lol
