I may be buying a 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT in a few days that's located a few states away, approximately 550 or so miles. As I will be driving this new car with less than 100 miles back, is 550 highway miles on a new motor ok? I've heard that you shouldn't let it sit in a close RPM range for a long time the first 600 or 1000 miles. It would be all highway so it'd be at that RPM for an extended period. Is that ok?

Thanks,

Shouldn't do anything harmful. If it makes you nervous just change your speed randomly throughout the drive, or take the scenic route to avoid hwy miles.

Scenic route, or at least change gears while cruising. Just don't cruise at 60mph in 6th for 500 miles.

You need to break in the engine at all RPM's, so you should avoid consistent RPM.

It really wont make or break the engine, its just recommended. Just take the highway, then take some side roads or something as well.

+1 for all the above, drive it hard but not redline say about 5500 rpm tops, this will seat your piston rings properly, but make sure u do this on the first 20 miles of the car

It'll be fine as long as you go 0 - 70 - 0 - 70 all the way home. Don't brake to 0, you have to coast it from redline. Also, don't forget to bounce up and down in your seat, it helps break in the suspension and strengthen the wheels. You'll need a passenger doing it too, otherwise your car will permanently lean to the left. I've done this to all my cars and never had any problems.

I'm picking up my new coupe tomorrow. I plan on leaving for Florida on Tuesday so I'll have enough time to ride her rough in New York for at least 300 miles(71 miles on the dash currently) before I even attempt the 1200 miles in 6th gear road trip.

Although I've done it in less than 20 hours before, this time I'll be splitting it up over 3 days to be able to stop and check out some sites along the way.

Also changing the oil before AND after the road trip.
