Hello,

I saw many times, that people discuss if it is possible to get climate control on nav (touchscreen) versions of GC after installing aftermarket head unit.
Here is the most simple way to do it.
I did it on Genesis Coupe 2016 3.8 Ultimate version.

TL;DR: Adapting non-touch blue screen from lower trims, supporting climate control and display brightness control.

Parts you need to buy:

1. Aftermarket head unit with wires and harnesses;
2. Metra 95-7352B Dash Kit;
3. Screen bezel 96110-2M000 or similar (~$30 on eBay);
4. Blue screen 96130-2M560 or similar (starting from $20 on eBay);
5. Cable 91170-2D100 or similar 10-pin connector — will be used to connect to blue screen;
6. 16-pin connector TE 174975-2 — will be used to connect to touchscreen connector.

How to connect:
1. Install head unit and Metra dash kit using general instructions.
After that, you will have head unit working and blank touchscreen.

2. Build the harness to connect the blue screen 96130-2M560 to the car:
Cut the wires on 91170-2D100 to get 10-pin connector, which fits into the screen, discard smaller unused connectors.
Attach connector from 91170-2D100 to 174975-2 according to colors on pinout below using 5 wires (light, can, acc, batt, gnd).
You don't need to connect uncolored pins, but you may try to.

Note 1: Pinout is shown for connectors, where the newly built harness will connect to, i.e. it is view on back of the screen and view on the connector in the car.
Note 2: You may start with ACC+, B+ and GND pins, after you connect these three, the screen should light up, but show nothing.
Note 3: I needed to connect CAN H of blue screen to CAN L of the car. I don't know why, but this was working (and CAN H→H or L→L didn't work).
Note 4: See more pictures at the end for more convenience.

You will get cable like this:

3. Remove touchscreen and connect the blue screen to the car, verify that it shows climate control.

4. Install the blue screen, install the bezel 96110-2M000, enjoy the climate.

Bonus: if you also install iDatalink Maestro, you will be able to see time and input source info (like, current track name) on this screen (and climate on head unit). However, you will need to hack the audio output a little bit.

Hello, your tutorial is a great help. I want to do the same thing with my car. Quick question. Did you replace the speakers or amp on the car? I want a new audio set up and I wanted to know if I could get a new amp and speakers with the new head unit.

No, I didn't replace speakers or amp, they are stock.
In case if you are interested connecting stock amp/speakers to a new head unit, you may use Metra harness with AX-HYKIA-SPDIF, or you may want to check this comment and comments below it: Looking to swap the OEM HU from a 2015 coupe 3.8 w/ Navi...

If you want to replace speakers or amp, you will probably directly connect new audio them to head unit with the wires without need to go through stock wires.

pioneer head unit
What model is that? If it is compatible with iDatalink, you may try to install iDatalink Maestro RR and get AC output on head unit.

Here's the photo with Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX (but later I switched to DMH-WT7600NEX, and still having the same feature). There is constant difference of 4 degrees between blue screen and head unit, don't know which one is correct, but the values update when you turn the knob, and also the state of AC mode is also shown.

I dont think it is touchscreen cant remember iif it is monochrome but it isnt blue
I saw in some older posts, that for people with non-touch non-blue screen it will show colored stripes, but AC control will also be shown:
If this looks like your display (with buttons below it), then I think it just needs to be connected.

Ok, so it looks like you already have AC output on display. Not sure what you can improve :)
You can try to follow this guide and swap colored display with the blue one, but I think it will not become more useful (but it will be without colored stripes).

So i decided i want to keep my pioneer DMH2600NEX and not go for Brainiac tablet. Instead i will be adding a tablet and deleting the upper screen altogether. If i read your post correctly you got your head unit to display climate info? If so maybe i should try this? D

Yes, climate info should work on head unit with iDatalink Maestro RR. I see that your head unit is iDatalink-compatible, so I believe it will work.

Thats awesome! May i ask one more question? Im looking at tablets now. Due to the age of the threads in this forum most of the tablets i see people used are getting kindof old now? Has anyone updated to newer models of tablets?

So, the 0.0f I am assuming is what would have been the outside temp, but is currently not functioning? Otherwise, this seems pretty awesome that the iDatalink Maestro RR works now. Has this always been the case? Could've sworn this has been an ongoing issue for some time for those of us with NAV. Are you going to do anything with the space the old screen currently exists within?

As a 2.0t Premium driver. It is hard to use a android tablet because of the noise when your car has the amplifier.
