looking to lower my seats! Options? 3.8 base w/navi 2010

So i have been looking around this site (Yes, search button!) and can't find much on adding head room. What I can find is sparse. It does however sound like the solution is lowering the seats, not modifying the roof.

Sounds like I need some special bracket mounts for the seats or something along those lines? I am not very mechanically inclined, and will end up likely paying someone to install the fix. So don't worry about difficulty.

If I could even get an inch that would be fantastic!

What kind of options do I have? And thank you a head of time for any responses!

Also. first post! woohoo!

Wait... your 2010 base 3.8 came with nav? :dunno:
I'm willing to bet you have a 3.8 GT.. 18inch wheels, no Brembos, chrome whiskers on your fog surrounds, heated seats? (UNLESS your car is used and someone installed an aftermarket nav system on it)

I'm pretty sure you can swap seats with someone who has a base model (unless you have the brown leather, you'll have to swap all the seats)

my appologies! I guess i have the GT with no brembos. I thought it was the "base /w navi", I thought the "GT" had to have the navi and brembos? Shows what i know...!

I'm fine with changing seats, installing new seats, whatever. I don't have brown leather. I just want a little more space on the driver side. I'm 6'6 270lbs (athletic, not fat, so racing seats are ok so long as they fit tall, haha!)

Thanks for the advice, i will research what i gain from getting the base model seats!
Good luck! As far as I know, the base model seats are completely manual and should provide a lower riding height :)
Of course, the GT model has a sunroof which also cut your headroom a little :p

and welcome to the forums! :D
This is going to come off as being an ass, but, how the hell do you buy a $29,000 car and NOT know what trim level you're getting? Or show up on an owners/enthusiast forum? I'm not trying to be mean, just genuinely curious.
aftermarket seats will give you a little more headroom?
racing seats with sidemount rails could lower it, how much, i don't know.

do your seats have a height adjustment on them? I know my base seats do, and at the lowest point, I have well over a foot above me, and I'm 5'10ish

maybe you've missed the adjustment?

I'm on the site because i would like to eventually become more of a textbook "enthusiast." I'm also better with computers than cars, so finding the site was easy lol! I think the other cop out excuse i could make is that I live in Canada and I believe the model "names" are different?...

google "pathway hyundai" and go into the model selection. you'll understand how i made my mistake.

had there been a 3.8 with no sunroof available I would have opted for that package, whatever the trim level may have been called!

and don't worry, you didn't come off like an ass, i sure felt stupid after the first post in the thread though haha

yup tried all the height adjustment. I'm also rocking a little bit of a "gangsta lean" in the seat. but like i said I'm 6'6", so it feels almost normal to me, lol!

i'm sure most are asking why the hell did i buy this in the first place. Honestly when i saw it come out it's first year, i just "had to have it." Money was in place and i got $6000 knocked off the price because it was literally the last 2010 model within 100km of where i live. I just had to have it, no real justifiable reason
Canadian models are different from the US, you don't have a location on your profile thing under your name, and well... you know americans.....

we have base, premium and GT. they have base, GT and track. in that order, they are the same. we got a lot more stuff than them, except warranty :(
I don't have any issues with the front seats, but the back seats... My head is touching the glass (every bump is painful, lol) if I don't slouch down.
I'm 5'9 and I fit PERFECT in the front seat and tried to sit in the back but like Jason said, my head touches the back glass - every bump is painful! lol

I would maybe try an aftermarket type of seat see if that could help.

If not, you might have to rock the gangsta lean :p
Trade you car in for a Celica...i heard they have tons of room..jp
The answer is pretty simple....get an aftermarket seat.
I have this as my drivers seat.

The seat height dropped so low I had to put spacers in between the rails to see above the steering wheel. I'm 5'9'' with a long torso to give you an idea. The stock seats fit perfect for me but I wanted something tighter. These seats should lower you a whole lot. Your almost sitting on the floor with this seat.

Friends got a Bride seat in his car...pretty nice..thats what you want.

I'm also 6'6, 275, and live in canada (BC though, gdamn this Norwegian/netherlands background of mine making me so tall). I own a Base model though (no sunroof) and I find I fit snug as a bug with the seat all the way down, all the way back, and the seat angled 2-3 clicks back... though having no sunroof would definitely help give me the extra room I need. I find if I let my hair grow out more than a month or two than it starts to skim the roof of the car lol.

Your best bet would be to have aftermarket seats installed.

I did not fit with the sunroof, hence why I got the base. Did you test drive it? Isn't this a little after the fact since you already bought it?

I only got one cause I usually don't have passengers in my car.

First off, thanks for all the replies!

That Bride seat looks like the solution to all my problems!

My room mate is a sales person for lexus/toyota, and will be managing the Scion dealership when it comes to Ottawa. He told me warranties can be voided and such with after market parts. Anyone with experience with this (in Canada)? I would assume the rest of the car minus the new seat would be under warranty if i were to make the change. But i've already proven I'm no car expert! haha!

Also! Yes, i did test the lowest model a good 8 months ago, and did have more room without the sunroof. But I wasn't ready to buy then. Then 4 months later for me to save the $6000 i did on the car, i had to take literally the last 2010 genesis in the city (or wait for the 2011 and pay $6000 more for the same thing.) Also, I do fit as I am now, and have been happily driving the car for 4 months now. But... I'm getting a little picky and want some more headroom!

I figure so long as the fix is less than $6000 I am coming out on top!
