New Guy Interested in Buying a Genesis Coupe

Hey Everyone,

New guy here, first post. My current car is basically about to $#it the bed due to transmission problems and I'm looking at an alternative. I've been attracted to a used (13k miles) 2010 Genesis Coupe 2dr 2.0T as it's affordable and looks great at the exterior. I'm looking at picking up an automatic. After doing some research, I'm seeing that there are some problems with the transmissions on these models and was wondering if anyone could give some additional insight into the problem.

I have the VIN # of the model that I'm looking at as well if that helps.

If you could help out a new car buyer it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

the 2.0T auto transmission is the only gc model that doesn't have any problems. the only problem is that lots of us are complaining about the poor gas mileage and its efficiency.

Thanks for the quick reply.

What are you guys getting on a ballpark average for mpg? I thought that the 30mpg for highway was decent for this type of car... no?
Search button is over rated.
most of the guys here report 18 - 23 mpg combined. like me, i get between 450 - 550 km a tank of gas (281 - 343 miles)

Yes it is, when it is broken. Why else do you think I would start a thread? Thanks for your valuable input.
Yes, depends on your foot
Unless you plan on modding the car, I would stay away from the 4 cylinder, especially the auto. It's not very efficient and does not reflect the EPA gas mileage estimates. I think the ZF transmission in the V6 is pretty awesome. I've had no problems with it and I average between 22 and 25mpg a tank, plus the car is pretty quick :D
I have gotten 683 kilos driving from halifax to st.johns nl. all highway. Around the city I ususally put in 70ish a week
I know some on here feel the 2.0T A/T's estimated mileage is overestimated, but in the 18 months I've had mine (2.0T w/ A/T) I'm pretty much getting the advertized mileage. I think a lot depends on driving style -- the driving style for many here may not be the same as the drivers that participated in the mileage testing.

My only (minor) complaint about the 5-sp A/T is the gear ratios -- a bit tight for my liking. Other than that, I've loved every minute of it.

Here's the way I see it junior.
If your in the market for the 2.0T(I own one) IS it slower then many cars in its class? SURE IS.....by much??? not at all. (If i was interested in dragging id buy a grand national gnx). With the genny, you get a car that is sexier then every car in its class. Compared to a Civic SI, ride is the same, but the rear wheel drive makes the car worth so much more....I love it for the price..if i was making 100 grand a year, i wouldnt even consider buying one, but were not all rich, so they make cars like this for the price.

CObalt SS- same price range. Hell of a lot faster. Ugly as ****, rides like ****, is ****, but fast as ****. built for a 16 year old skeet!!

Civic SI- few grand more. Same ride, tight, barely faster, depends on start really, way uglier, and everyone and their dog owns one.

V6 Mustang - nice looking, just too common. Up to 2010 was slow, now its fast as balls and not even in the same category now. nice bit more expensive too.

3.8 gives you more balls, more car really, for more price. IF i had the extra 6-8 grand i would have rather bought one. But im not complaing.

Nice car, nice to drive, so fun, very good looking....good price....think about it.

HOLD UP 2LIP... FIRST OF ALL I'M NO F...KN JUNIOR. I'M 37: second of all,
MyQUESTION IS ONLY IN REGARDS TO ESHUNS EXCELLENT GAS MILEAGE. I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW HE DRIVES VS HIS MPG?
LASTLY THE GN was my first car at 17yo. I could care less about civics cuz I only drive v6 and 8 in sports car applications. I have owned both G35 and G37s. Not to mention a list of other cars so watch who you call junior jack and read threads carefully.

Even more reason for him not to be callin grown men up in here junior. And what really gets me mad is I'm gettin a rant for a simple gas mileage question out of being impressed with the v6 mileage. That's all.
And really??? A 67 year old comparing civics and mustangs... lol

All I'm saying is it's such an insignificant thing to get your blood pressure up about.

I see no reason not to compare Civic SI's and Mustangs, both are good cars and start at pretty reasonable prices. Also if you read his post instead of just blowing up you'd see what he said for the mustang "now its fast as balls and not even in the same category now".

See bro... ur not getting it. I don't care what he even said about the mustang. They are not my taste. Eshun said he pulls 22-25mpg from his gencoupe v6. I'm saying in my brain. Wow that's great. So I ask. What's your drive style like cuz when I had my G37 I could only get about 17 aggressive and 20 on the grandma. So we go back to the question.

What is your drive style like?

Hondas, fords and quality comparos do nothing to help answer the question at hand. Furthermore calling me junior like I'm some punk new jack just adds to the scenario. As a stand alone comment. Locke ness is fine. As a response to me. Along with the junior, it is
1. Off the issue
2. Disrespectful

Now ur mad cuz I treated someone with the same level of disrespect I received but u take more offense to mine cuz I'm more combative. Yes I'm more combative cuz I have a name printed and IT IS NOT JUNIOR.
You gotts give respect to get respect.

So now I ask you where does mustang performance relate to hyundai gas mileage?

Unless I'm purposely trying to accelerate hard, I drive the car pretty easily. I'm not one of those people that accelerates through each gear up to 4k just to get up to speed.

I do go to school in the Hartford, CT area though, so my gas mileage takes a dip when I'm there. With a lot of city driving and it being the middle of winter my average can go down to 19-20 sometimes. When I'm home though, which is much more suburban, I get great mileage.
