Discussion Starter #1 (Edited)
Here at GenCoupe we are going to be having a regular Photo Challenge. We will be posting up a new contest with rules on what were looking for. GenCoupe shooters will then go out and shoot according to the rules then either email the photos to [email protected]. The number of entries will be limited to the first 10 in the interest of making voting easier. Once the deadline for submission come we will put up a poll for people to vote on which photo they think is the best. The winner gets bragging rights, for now...

Here are the official rules of the challenge;
  • Every other Tuesday a New Contest will be Announced. You will have until the following Monday to have your photos submitted to the Poll.
  • The submissions for the topic will be posted with a Poll on Tuesday. Once the Poll is started it will remain open until the following Monday when the Poll will be closed and a new Contest announced.
  • Photos must be no more than 800px wide on the long end. .jpg ONLY
  • Exif date is a must. Ex: Nikon D3 | 1/250 | F5.6 | iso 200 or Nikon Coolpix | Automatic
Any submission lacking EXIF data will be disqualified (if you don't understand this one, just ask.)
  • All submissions must be new photographs taken for the challenge, nothing that you already have laying around.
  • Each new topic will be accompanied by an additional rule, dictating some caveat about the topic. This rule will be something like "No cars" or "Black and White only". Any entry that does not adhere to this will be disqualified.
  • Send your one submission photograph to [email protected]. In the subject line of the email include the specific topic and the date of the challenge. I We will include the date in the topic's thread title, for example "Gencoupe photo challenge - [6/23/2010]" to make things easier to track.
  • When you send your submission please note your screen name in the email so as to be easier in the end.
  • Do not include any watermarking on your submission in order to keep voting anonymous.

I will use this post and the first reply to track all of the challenges, linking to each challenges individual thread. I will leave this thread open for general discussion on the challenge in general, but please try to limit discussion to the challenge in general, and not specific topics. Those can be discussed in each topics own thread.

ScarMack and I will both be monitoring the email address to which submissions are being sent.

Are the submissions supposed to be anonymous at the time of voting? If so, add in "no watermarking" to the rules. iNXXT kinda brought this up.

ehhhh I'm not a big fan of the "no watermark" rule...

if that's the case, can we submit just small versions of the pictures then? I don't like having good quality copies of my photos out on the internet without a watermark (it's the reason why I don't allow anyone to view full size on Flickr either - call me paranoid)

yeah, 800x??? is fine for online protection. If you put it online, someone, somewhere, is gonna link to it, or dload it, or whatever. But it's nowhere near enough to print, and unless you've got serious software, nearly impossible to blow-up to a printable size without losing all the quality.

Totally lookin' forward to this.

Idea: Some of our valued sponsors may like to donate parts, products, or services for the winners if they knew of the opportunity.

Topic ideas:

shadows, light, specific numbers, man-made, nature, solitude, groups, water, food, animals, curves, lines, motion, action, specific part of the Genesis Coupe... gummy porn heh.

I guess it doesn't really matter the topic.
