Sorry ahead of time if this is a redundant post if there is something already out there. With that in mind, I have a 2011 Coupe 3.8 Track with 83000 miles. I recently purchased and haven't changed the oil yet. I am wondering what's everyone take on specific oil and filter you are using. What's the best and what should I stray away from?

Best oil filter is OEM.
Best oil for engine ware protection Asoil or Quaker state synthetic 5w30 (top 5)
Stay away from Mobil1 and Royal Royal Purple.

Just as a counterpoint, I’ve used Mobil 1 in all 5 of my Hyundais (BK2 3.8, Santa Fe 2.0T, Sonata, Elantra and Tucson) with zero oil related issues.

Also Mustang 5.0 race car, Dodge Ram tow vehicle, Honda Accord and Odyssey, a Toyota Camry, and my current BMW 330Ci.

Needless to say I’m a fan, and it’s never let me down.

I concur with the factory filter though.

Quaker state over mobil 1?? I personally never used quaker state or know much about them. The Oreilly, I go to, has had all their bottles on the clearance rack for a while so always thought it was a crappy brand. Why stay away from mobil 1?

This is what I use,
Oil: Mobil 1 5w-30 and Lucas oil stabilizer
Oil filter: Wix XP or K&N Gold

Lucas oil stabilizer has no doubt won me over. havent used it in the genny yet but have a 03 escort zx2 that i was using it every oil change. at the shop 1 day getting an oil change and me and the tech get to talking yada yada. low and behold neither 1 of us notices he forgot to add oil to the car. he starts it up, backs it out, and puts it on the alignment rack where we start blabbering again. car sits there running probably another 5 minutes before i start hearing a weird noise and tell him to shut it off. add oil and lucas and she's still running to this day after 70k miles

Mobil does not do well with Gen engines, numerous spun bearings with thsoe who beat hard on engine and using mobile. It also significantly degrades in protection when it gets above normal temps. Oil is fine for normal drivers, not if you harsh on the car.
Oil additive will help with ware protection.

I confirmed this with oil analysis on my twin turbo 3.5 explorer.

You have to scroll down a bit to see oil ranking by ware protection, but they compiled extensive list after testing over 200 oils.

Mobile 1 full synthetic 5W30 with OEM filter. As the original owner of a first gen KIA Sorrento (2003) that's all I used. Being a 4x4 it took a beating and 15 years later solid with everything including engine in top condition. My previous car (Corvette) that's the exact oil recommended. To note though, I don't track my Genesis nor beat on it and I drive low miles per year. I change every 3K miles on all my cars, just by habit. In MHO I think you'd be okay with any of the top brands. The key really is to change the oil regularly and as frequently as needed based on your driving habits. Just because an oil says you can go 5K miles doesn't apply if you're constantly beating on it or tracking.
