I recently installed a Mishimoto Race Intercooler, FIC 525cc injectors and the Sideways Guru radiator block off plate. After installing just the injectors and fmic, I was getting above 215F driving on the freeway with the AC on. I thought it was because the block off plate wasn't installed.

After installing the plate and flushing my coolant along with a new thermostat and hoses, the car seemed to be fine. It wasn't hot enough for AC so I never ran it but idle was fine, right at 183F, and driving would be between 179 and 188 depending on if I was wot or going up a hill. I also run a 60/40 ratio.

Today it was hotter, in the mid 80s, and on the freeway with the AC on, the car started going up towards 215F. I shut off the AC and it would start to go back down. If I was cruising and not accelerating, I was able to turn the AC back on. It was still high, maybe around 195 but if I didn't accelerate, it wouldn't rise. Coasting also helped. I was never able to cruise or accelerate and have it stay at 183 even with the AC off. It didn't really matter what speed either.

When I drove later when it was cooler, around 65F, I didn't go above 186F no matter how I was driving. This was with the AC off though. I checked the coolant level and it seemed fine. Not sure how to go about diagnosing this.

Last time I checked it was full. Not sure if it was cold or if it had already been started. I'll check again either tonight or tomorrow.

Could the bigger fmic impede air flow to the radiator since it is in front of it vs the stock one? What would be the solution if that's the reason? Water wetter? Bigger radiator?

You put the block off in right? A bigger radiator would help as the BK1 2L one is marginal at best. Be sure the side pieces between the radiator and condenser are still there. Maybe a V6 or BK2 shroud?

Yes, the block off is in. And are you talking about those 2 plastic fin shaped things that snap in? I had to remove them for the intercooler to fit. Should I try to trim them so I can put them back in?

Would you go with a bigger rad first or a different shroud? What about the UNIQ shroud?

Yes the pieces are there to force the air through the radiator. You can use some 1" square window AC foam too.

A higher pressure radiator cap would help too. Not so much with peak temps but it won't boil at the higher temps.

You got an OE tstat right?

I thought those fins were in front of the condenser not between the condenser and rad? I still have the foam strips at the top and bottom covering the gap between the condenser and rad.

I was thinking about getting a higher pressure cap too.

Yeah it's OE.

Okay I'll see if I can get those fins to fit in there and I'll get some foam stripping and make sure there's no gaps anywhere.

Hopefully it will help! I will report back after I try that.

If the temps are pretty steady with the AC off, is there still a chance that it wouldn't be holding pressure?

And is that a common thing for high pressure caps to leak?

Reviving this thread.

Still have issues with my AC. I have a brand new csf radiator, new hoses, new thermostat, new water pump, multiple flushes. Car runs perfectly fine in traffic, on freeway, driving hard with AC off. Car is fine in traffic with AC on.

Only issue is AC on at highway speeds. I guess I should say when the compressor kicks on at highway speeds.

It was raining a lot and about 50F outside and after driving for almost an hour at highway speeds with the DEFROSTER on, my temps started climbing all of a sudden. I'm usually sitting at 183-190. If I coast down a hill I go back down to 177. The temps got up to 215. I turned off the defroster and the temps started to go down.

I can drive my car with the ac or defroster off at highway speeds for much longer than an hour and temps stay fine the whole time.

Could this be compressor related or pressure related to the AC? If not, then I have no idea what's going on.

If the fan wasn't turning on, would it even make a difference at highway speeds. I thought anything over 35mph makes the fans not needed anymore for the most part.

The low speed fan won't come on over 35. The high speed will with high AC pressure which equals a lot of heat.

I assume your AC degrades when this is happening? It should kick the compressor off and turn on the hi speed fan.

Hmm, I'll have to double check what the fan does with the AC on. I have the BR (gencoupestore) tune so my fan is always on. I've never felt the AC get hot when this happens. It still blows cold and once the temp starts to get to a spot that scares me I shut off the AC.

My tune has the lo speed fan on al the time and I disabled it. I use the hi speed fan for engine coolant temp . But I have an led wired in that comes on when the fan relay is turned on so it's easy to tell. Pretty easy to do actually, the led.
