Hello,

2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 here.

I just recently got my oil changed at the dealer for the first time (was going to other places but always full synthetic) and after I left maybe 30 miles down the road I get a check engine light. The light went away after 20 starts and then came back after 3 hours of driving. That cycle repeated quite a bit so I bought an OBDII reader and it shows
P0025 pending, P0024 pending, P0024 permanent, P0025 -blank- , P0024 -incomplete-
this morning after clearing it before my commute.

I haven't tried anything yet but my friend who is a mechanic has suggested that I may need to just change the cam sensor. My cars American I'm under 100,000 miles and have a 10 year warranty in America but Canadian Hyundai seems to be refusing to honor the American warranty.

My car is behaving totally normal, sound, power, handling, and all electrics all functioning as always. It's just this light that's on now that occasionally clears itself but always seems to come back.

Any advice from anyone in a similar situation?

Sensors

I'm sure its just your sensors going bad. One or more.

On the 3.8 there are actually 4 camshaft sensors. There are two front or intake side. These are easy to see,..they look like rabbit ears. Then there are two exhaust side. These are a bit more tricky to find, at the back of the block, kind of tucked away.

I would start by replacing both front sensors. Do the re-learn procedure, run a diagnostic. See if that clears it up. If not replace the rear sensors as well. Don;t feel bad, over 50-60 K any sensor can go bad. Electronics are just that way sometimes.

Thank you very much for your reply! I'm really hoping it's the sensors. I just took the car out for a spin after pressing any and every sensor I could find further into it's plug. The code has completely disappeared so I'm not sure what happened there, I'm anticipating it's return though. Also, what is the re-learn procedure?

P0024 and P0025 are the rear exhaust solenoids. And should be bank 2 or the drivers side.

It could have been as simple as some oil tech dip-**** bumping rubbing, knocking one of the front sensors ajar. Or it could have just done this on its own over time.

The re-learn is used when replacing any power train sensor. Repair/replace then key on for 30 seconds, key off. Then again, key on 15 seconds, then start.

The codes claim "B" camshaft position - timing over-retarded (bank 2) and "B" camshaft position - timing over-advanced (bank 2). When looking it up online I see similar things even from this forum. Other common ones directly from Hyundai is clogged oil line and camshaft timing/timing chain.

Yeah, but dont read too deep into the codes. Start at the surface first, the codes just narrow it down for you. Dont go balls deep when just the tip might suffice.LOL.

Yeah, but dont read too deep into the codes. Start at the surface first, the codes just narrow it down for you. Dont go balls deep when just the tip might suffice.LOL.

changing oil back to 5w30 instead of 5w20(what the oil cap says) has solved the issue entirely for me, tested for 3000 miles without check engine light coming back.

Gaijinn, can you help me with the location of these 4 camshaft sensors? I was able to locate 2 of them on the driver side... there should be 2 more, correct? If im standing in front of the car looking in...the 2 that i found are on the right side...now the other two..would they be on the left side? ive tried but failed to locate them...hopefully you can help me...if you can, pictures would be awesome. Thx. My car has the p0024 p0025 code also.....thankyou again.

Buy a shop manual. Its worth the small investment.

Is bank 2 the drivers side or the passenger side ? I thought the Exhaust Bank 2 is the drivers side and the Exhaust Bank 1 the passenger side.

When facing the crank pulley bank 1 is the left hand side.
