Does the car run, as long as there is no damage to the block or cylinder walls you will be fine all the internals are going to be replaced.

Yes, I believe it runs! No rod through the engine yet. It died while I was driving to the mechanics shop, but it might have been due to a drained battery, the mechanic said he got it running again but recommended not driving it.

Also curious as to whether there is a big difference in engine reliability between 2.0 vs 3.8 to make one worth it over the other? I believe I've seen a fair amount of both with blown engines from rod knock (on fb marketplace).
A swap with the same size engine is easy. swapping to a different engine is a whole different can of beans.
If you're going to do a 2.0 to 3.8 swap, you might as well find a wrecked camaro and do a chassis swap... It's about the same amount of work, except have to fab up motor and trans mounts.
