Funky Hatch Is The Perfect Nissan Middle Child

Nissan seems to be on a war path to fill every last ounce of white space in the automotive spectrum. The company has unleashed a barrage of vehicles that range from playful to downright confusing. At first blush, the 2011 Nissan Juke would seem to fit into the latter category. With styling that's two shakes away from robo-reptilian, the small crossover packs plenty of power, a tall ride height and a small footprint into one sub-$20,000 package. If you can avoid pigeonholing the Juke, you'll find that the engineers at Nissan secretly managed to bring their own interpretation of the hot hatch to market without raising the ire of the company's accountants.

We wouldn't blame you for thinking we're one stud short of a lug pattern on this one, but point your peepers to a few specs and you'll see what we mean. The Juke weighs in at less than 3,000 pounds in front-wheel-drive guise and packs a turbocharged, direct-injection 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that's good for 188 horsepower. For reference, the company's own Sentra SE-R hits the scales with an extra 88 pounds on its waist and 11 fewer ponies at its command. Opt for the manual gearbox in the Juke, and things get even lighter. Intrigued? We were too.

Shares a roofline and butt of a 370
For what it weighs and its power, it should be faster.
My Xterra is actually quicker then this thing.
I think the turbo charged Kia sportage may completely kill this thing.

well it's just as fast as the genesis coupe 2.0t haha

In theory a baseball can move 0-90 mph and reach home plate in under a half second.
Therefore, if you replaced a piece of **** with a baseball, in theory it could reach home plate faster then a Bugatti Veyron.

What do we learn? Doesn't matter how fast it is, it still looks like ****.
They are tossing a turbo in everything now. 5 years from now, a Turbo will be standard equipment.
Wife and I test drove one today and in all honesty, its actually a cool little car. Handled and performed decent, loaded with options and priced pretty good compared to other small hatchbacks and SUVs. We wanting something small and practical with a bit more space then the Genesis and my Civic and its perfect for that. Not people space, but space for stuff. We were actually looking at the Tucson and Sportage, but in price/performace/options, the Juke kills them. I think the nearest comparable vehicle would be the Toyota Matrix and IMO, the Juke was 10x better in every aspect.

BUT, its not exactly easy on the eyes LOL.

he was saying it should be faster than it is... i'm saying it's right where it should be and just as fast as the 2.0t
a civic si is just under 3000 lbs and has 197 hp and can do the same 0-60 and 1/4 as the juke and gc 2.0t. obviously these are just reported times, but just sayin it sounds about right. never once mentioned the looks...

I know I'm saying it still looks like **** no matter how fast it is
I don't car what options it has or doesn't have or how quick it is. Ill take a drop in options or an increase in price or both to stay out of this car. This and the accord crosstour are 2 of the ugliest cars today. They even give that ol pontiac aztec a run for its money on the ugliest car of the past 20 or so years.

In retrospect, I don't know what I am saying.
I think I am saying I want to drive over one in my Xterra.

Its ugly, it has virtually no utility or even less then a typical sedan, it not fast, the millage isn't that impressive, and did I mention it was ugly?

if you ever decide to actually do that, please video tape it :)

haha don't worry I wasn't defending it.. just saying it's as fast as a 2.0t which is kind of sad for us but the 2.0t is slow when it's stock anyways.

i've seen a couple jukes around here, or it's the same one i see over and over lol. it's a funny lookin car.
