GENESIS HURRICANE SC TO CREATE A STORM AT 2011 SEMA SHOW

HATCI, RMR and Magnuson Supercharge Hyundai Genesis Coupe

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct.13, 2011 – To showcase the extreme power of Hyundai’s most popular performance car, Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) teamed up with Magnuson Products, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International and Torvec Inc. to develop and build a special edition prototype Genesis Coupe, the Genesis Hurricane SC. HATCI, Hyundai’s design, technology and engineering branch, will display the high-performance Genesis Coupe in Hyundai’s 2011 SEMA Show booth from November 1-4, 2011 in Las Vegas.

The Genesis Hurricane SC represents a two year development effort by HATCI, as its engineers worked to enhance all aspects of the vehicle including power, traction, braking, exterior and interior design and audio system. Highlighting the performance modifications, HATCI teamed up with Magnuson Products to supercharge Genesis Coupe’s 3.8L V-6 engine with a liquid to air intercooler, producing more than 450 horsepower.

“The HATCI and Magnuson supercharger demonstrates the high-performance potential of Genesis Coupe’s V-6 engine – the car was engineered to handle this kind of extra power,” said David Dutko, senior engineer, HATCI. “Our HATCI engineers have been working for years with Magnuson to ensure high engine output is available on future Hyundai vehicles.”

“The supercharger creates a modest six to seven pounds of boost which generates a 35-45 percent increase in horsepower and torque and can be easily modified to deliver even higher boost levels,” said Terry Peddicord, director, sales, Magnuson Products. “One of the many exciting aspects of this project is that the Genesis Hurricane SC is not just another pretty face for the show circuit, but rather it is a hard working lab-rat that will push the bounds of this car and the whole vehicle segment.”

In addition to the supercharged V-6, Torvec Inc. has been developing its IsoTorque differential with improved handling and traction capability with HATCI engineers at the Hyundai Proving Grounds in California. The IsoTorque differential delivers nearly a one second per lap improvement in the Genesis Coupe on the Hyundai road course.

Beyond the engine, Genesis Hurricane SC has a long and impressive list of both interior and exterior specialty modifications. Hyundai’s long-standing racing partner Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) provided exterior enhancements including a front bumper, grille, hood, side skirts, diffuser and rear deck with spoiler. RMR partners Enkei and Hankook provided the high performance 19-inch wheel and tire assemblies, a RMR free flowing exhaust system and air intake was utilized to free up more engine power. The vehicle also sports upgraded LED headlights and taillights provided by FlyRyde.

The Hurricane’s interior also received some state of the art enhancements including a Harman International high level Lexicon audio system that was tuned in house by HATCI engineers and Katzkin custom premium leather and suede seats accented with blue inserts.

Mechanically, the Hurricane SC has Bilstein monotube shock absorbers and springs with adjustable ride height tuned on the Nurburgring in Germany and a Brembo six piston brake kit with cross drilled front and rear rotors. The engine also received a SPEC lightweight single mass aluminum flywheel and stage two clutch, DeatschWerks high flow fuel pump and 600cc injectors, Perma-Cool oil, differential and steering coolers and a custom CPR Fabrication billet aluminum oil filter adapter.

Additionally, on the SEMA Show floor the numerous parts of the Genesis Hurricane SC will be displayed, providing show-goers the opportunity to experience and interact with the vehicle’s actual hard parts and future developments.

Wanted to share some photos of the Supercharged Genesis Coupe right before it left for SEMA. Featuring the RMR front bumper, new sides skirts and diffuser. Also our carbon intake system works with both current engines and the supercharged setup.

But are you guys going to produce and sell the kits? Supercharged this, Turbo that at SEMA is good and all, but until someone starts producing something that people can buy its nothing more but eye candy and hopeless dreams for 3.8 Genesis owners.

Great I am impressed with what you guys do, and I am sure Rhys has a ton of fun driving the awesome car. What does that mean for me?

Explains the pictures on the 2013 thread with the SC, a 2010 body style (we've got to come up with a name for it) and a SC just didn't add up but now it does.
Gratz to FlyRyde!

Yes I should say congrats to FlyRyde, big step my man.

And to RMR, I am not hating on you guys by any means, I have and love your grill. But it's like saying "See how awesome your Genesis can be! Oh you will never be able to have it that way, but it's awesome....trust us."

All I want is the hype and the talk to go away and start seeing results. All the same you guys do awesome stuff, and I look forward to hopefully seeing some trickle down to the masses. Have a good SEMA show, wish I was there this year.

This community is begging for forced induction for the v6. Crossing my fingers this ends up available for sale as a kit..... maybe something to tune with as well

.... how do you have are you starting with a "better" platform... sure you guys have more STOCK horsepower but this topic is about forced induction and 2.0T's come from factory with forced induction... meaning as far as a better platform it is CLEARLY the 2.0t considering it already comes boosted from factory... you have to drop 5-6 grand just for the kit alone which will get you about 450... with 5-6k on 2.0t you can do a build AND drop a huge turbo which you'll be making more then 450 easy. Sorry but you're seriously mistaken if that's what you believe. Let me know when YOU have that superchargeer kit on YOUR car and we'll see how realistic and achieveable it is.

and thats for super charger.... single turbo for you guys is 7k and twins is about 10k... when they're released.. looks like the v6 really ISN'T a "better" platform considering the money your spending for the power your getting when you can drop the same, if not less money on an upgraded kit for 2.0t and you'll surpass those numbers.

I was addressing your comment about 3.8 guys not being able to afford 5-6 grand in parts. Do you think we got the more expensive platform because we lack in funds? Sure your car came with a turbo and slapping a larger turbo on there may make your car a dyno queen but is it reliable or even efficient as a daily driven vehicle? SFR is running 600hp on stock internals. Hell since this is a RMR thread...why didn't they use a 2.0t for their car if it was such a great platform? In all honesty my comment about the 3.8 being a better platform was just me being a 3.8 owner. I honestly love both platforms...and when i was in the market for gencoupe i wanted a 2.0T. I just got a way better deal on the 3.8..(2000 cheaper than the 2.0t base) but I do find it very disrespectful you come into a thread where there was no bashing of 2.0t's and start this non sense and then insult us by saying we can't afford 5-6 grand regardless of whether or not it is true.

Ok once again have to correct a 2.0 owner and bring him back to reality. To your own argument most 2.0 owners don't have the money to make their car equal to a 3.8 stock let alone the awesome power you are talking about.

There is no replacement for displacement, that is the law of physics my brotha, so yes 3.8 is a better platform. The only reason we do not see a ton of aftermarket for the 3.8 is because the 2.0 sells better because you are all mesmerized by the instant aftermarket ability of your car.

Mark my words, FI will come out for the 3.8, and when it does all of us 3.8 owners who can afford 7K or more, will be laughing all the way down the road.

NOW, this is an RMR thread regarding their SuperCharger... so if you want to continue this discussion let us please take it to the general forum.

1) take the tampon out the vag cus i wasn't saying you got the more expensive platform because you lack in funds so dont put words in my mouth...

2) i wasn't disrespecting saying all of you can't afford it... i said REALISTACALLY MOST wouldn't be able to afford 6k for a SUPERCHARGER KIT cus alot of ppl would spend 6k in PARTS ingeneral... not ONLY on a SC so don't twist my words around and cry about it..

3) they're not using a 2.0t because they're CREATING A PROTOTYPE SC for v6's.... they dont need to do that for the 2.0t's cus they already have boost. they're trying to make a a new SC kit for the v6's which is why they're using a v6...

4) you're accusing me of saying you got the more "expensive" platform because u lack funds, yet you said you got the 3.8 for 2,000 cheaper then you wouldve got the 2.0t so your comment makes absolutely no sense.

and 5) like you said.. that comment was said because that's just you being a 3.8 owner which is a biased response... even though im a 2.0t owner i was just comparing the two and using REAL NUMBERS AND STATS, not just saying it because im a 2.0t owner with a biased answer... next time dont go assuming someone is bashing and go crying saying someone is very disrespectful and putting words in someones mouth saying i said you cant afford ****... idk your name, job, income or life style which is why i said, REALISTICALLY MOST... im guessing you took it personal and to heart cus YOU individually might not be able to afford it and got upset or something but i never said ALL 3.8 owners...

okay "hellbilly" congrats... maybe a handful of you will be able to afford it... feel better about yourself? all i did was correct project jaydens biased response saying its a "better" platform becuase HE has a 3.8... sure it might be "better" platform as far as stock or basic mods but REALISTCALLY MOST cant afford a FI kit.. so sure you have a "better" platform but not much you can do with the "better" platform if you cant afford to do FI... like you said if this wants to continue it can be moved. but i'm done talking and getting my point across to ignorant biased ppl who block out realistic facts.
