GC or bust?

Hey guys, name is scooter. I do NOT own a GC, but I am looking to get one in the future (like...7-9 months from now). I recently joined the military and I am leaving for basic soon (less than 20 days...yay). So, at the end of the my training (basic + ait = 7-8 months), I'll have about 12-14 grand saved up.

I'm considering on getting a 3.8T GT model (maybe in blue...or black). If not, I might get a regular Genesis or an Elantra...who knows?

Reason why I want a Hyundai? I'm half korean. It's in the blood.

Are you looking for any specific information or a persuasive argument in favor of a particular model/motor/trim?
What are you looking for? What would you like out of your next vehicle?
Well, I come from the toyota realm. My parents own a Prius, I owned a Solara before it died and had to get rid of it. I want to switch. So, I thought, 'why not go korean? I am half korean, right?'

I saw the Hyundai Genesis and I was like...DO WANT!

Anyway, what I'm looking for in a vehicle:

-headroom (I'm tall)
-legroom (I'm tall)
-easy maintainability
-cheap to maintain (no $200 oil changes (example: mercedes benz))
-pretty easy to modify to give it my own touch
-nice acceleration
-good looking

I have driven a 3.0L V6 (friend's avalon) and I loved it. Also, I think a V6 GC is just right as it has power but not sacrificing fuel economy. When I looked at some pictures, the GC looked pretty roomy.

Any persuasive option to sway me towards a certain trim/engine size would be AWESOME. Again, I am about 9 months away from purchase.

Welcome :hello:

I'm 6'2 and I was pretty much touching the headliner sitting in a premium with a sunroof :( I'm also worried about legroom, last time I had the seat all the way back It still felt a bit cramped. The only car I feel really comfortable in is the RSX.

Anyway if/when I get the GC looks like I'm going with the base model
Might have to but a bucket seat if I do get one. BAW
I can vouch for everything except the headroom/legroom..Im only 5'6 so i cant help you out there
Unless you're a sasquatch like me you'll have plenty of room. I'm 6'6" and can fit pretty well. Only about 1" between my head and the roof though, even with a bit of gangsta lean :). Leg room isn't a problem unless you're sitting in the back seat.
Wow, so it's pretty spacious. How about maintenance? If is pretty cheap to maintain? I would assume so if it's a Korean car.
If you get a track or rspec expect tires and brakes to be a little expensive, but not too bad. If you're modding and driving the car hard you're going to need a new clutch probably before 30K as well, depending on power and driving style. Stay close to stock power and dont dump the clutch constantly and you should get decent life out of it.
Psst, I'm getting an auto. Can't...well, don't know how to drive stick.

I can verify this as well, since I'm 6'5" myself. No legroom or headroom issues to speak of. (I also have the base model with no sunroof, which will give an extra inch or so of headroom)
Manuals are actually easy. In 1st and reverse you don't let the clutch out all the way when you feel the car start to move you begin to give a little gas. This is called 'slipping the clutch'. To finish, you 'slowly' lift your foot on the clutch while pressing the gas with the other. To shift into 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th, you push the clutch in with your left foot while picking the right foot up off the gas at the same time. Then switch gears, let the clutch out and lightly get back into the gas. The clutch can come out quite quickly as you are already in motion.

Anyways, auto is fine. If you get the R-spec I do believe they come without a sunroof, allowing more headroom for those with longer torso's than legs. Maintenance isn't bad and changing the oil on these cars is pretty easy. You should be able to do it yourself with no mechanical knowledge/background. Park on a flat hard surface, leave the car in 1st gear, pull the e-brake to the top, jack up one side (car manual has jack locations) place jack stand under car, set on stand, repeat on other side. As an added precaution I recommend placing blocks under the rear tires BEFORE lifting to prevent it from rolling backwards at any time.... You know, there is a How To: on here somewhere. At any rate, you just place the drain pan under the oil drain plug and oil filter, remove plug, remove filter, once empty, replace with new filter, clean and replace the plug, drop car, add (certain number of quarts, ie. 5) oil, start car for ~15-30 seconds, remove dip stick, wipe, reinsert, pull to check, add oil as needed, job done.

AKGenesis, thanks for the guide. :D
You bet! Learning is fun and so is shifting! lol. I own manuals and autos. My truck is an auto because I'm not really hauling anything over 6,000 pounds and I pretty much only use it on ling trips hauling my camper to job sites or car to the track which is 360 miles away. My beater SRT is a manual (bleh, that ship has sailed, it's for sale) and my bike... Well of course it's a manual =P. My Genesis will be a manual. Just my preference.

I won't be buying one until later in the year as well.

Shoulda went navy brother :)
Tell the Navy to guarantee me a job I want. Also, I already joined the Army. Army medical is better anyway.
