Since search function on this forum isnt' the best outthere and a lot of people don't tend to do some search :gc-Smiley-UseSearch, we've decided to make a thread of FAQ on our 2.0T Genesis Coupe ECU reflash.

I will be truly honest that we've been a bit afraid to put up a thread like this and stating all the facts.
This probably has been one of the most sensitive topic that we didn't want to cause any kind of frame or fanboy war like usual since we have many vendors offering their own ECU flash as well as piggyback and stand alone.

This is what I can think of right now but as we get more questions, I shall update on this.

Please keep it in mind that we've been offering this ECU reflash service since July,2010 yet we have at least 400+ customers out there running our ECU reflash as of today (Feb,2012)

- What does it exactly do?

1. Throttle response

Since Genesis Coupe has E-throttle body that is controlled by sending signals

with ECU, there are some delay/hesitations with throttle body. It also has to

do with notorious rev hang issues we've seen and experienced especially with

automatic tranny. With SFR reflash, we can control the timing and

responsiveness of throttle body remapping the logic of the throttle body.

Reaction time will be a lot quicker and all the lag that used to be with stock

tune will be gone. We don't want it to be too touchy especially for the

customers located in East coast where they get snow in winter, so we've put

it in the safe range. Going into full throttle (80% opening) is going to be

much faster resulting to reach desired RPM faster than stock tune. It also

saves gas mileage since car will be more responsive with throttle (with less

amount of gas on the foot moves the car... Injection = amount of foot to the

gas)


As you can see in the video, even with bumped RPM (7200rpm) whole transition to next gear comes way faster than

using stock throttle response and RPM reaction causing smoother transition between the shifting yet faster WOT times.


2. Upping the boost level

Stock boost level is usually 12-13psi peak and 10-11 psi hold being internally

waste gated type.

We usually offer about 4-5psi bump on the boost if the car is bone stock.

We give next next upgraded tune when the customer comes with

intake/exhaust/ most importantly FMIC which should bump at least 10-15rhwp

and another 10-20lb tq.

A lot of people never understood this but one of the most important

components for turbocharged car is FMIC where it really cools down the

HOT compressed air in the piping. Without having legit brand of core and

quality FMIC, heat soaking stock or low quality core will definitely cause

damage to the motor.

We will require to come with a legit brands (nothing that looks big but it's made

of cheap core)with good efficiency.

(We will recommend the brands by PM or email.. we don't want to name any brands online)

* A lot of people also make mistakes playing with stock actuator thinking adjusting it will add power.

It may add a bit more power that's when you are running with stock boost level

or little more with adjustment.

As soon as you add boost with ECU reflash, ECU will automatically think

actuator is over boosting and will put your car into notorious "Limp Mode".

We highly recommend not to play with actuator if you are thinking of getting

the tune in the future.

We find a lot of people try to adjust back to stock and it's very hard to go back

once it's been touched.

Same deal with the aftermarket boost controller, ECU will be limiting powers of

upping the boost without properly flashed ECU.

3. Advanced timing

We give out timings depends on what octane rate you are running the car.

The higher octane you are running with the car, the more aggressive timing

we will be given to each flash.

We usually do not add much timing on stock turbocharged car for safety and

longer life for the motor especially the ones that do hardcore driving (Drifiting,

etc) on 2.0T motor.

Also note to use legit brand named Gas stations to get octane rate as

advertised.

Giving more timing will make more power throught the RPM, and the customer

definately feel the aggressiveness of power and torque.

We recommend one or two step colder spark plugs for 93+ (octane) tunes (especially the custom tunes)


4. ECU year/model/version

As most of you know, there are many different versions vary by the

manufactured years/model.

SFR is very proud to say that we are the only company who can reuse your

factory equipped ECU version to flash your ECUs.


What gives?

It is very important that though with same engine and other components, Hyundai has put in more safety features in newer year of ECUs.
Sure it could be Hyundai's protection not allowing the owners to play with their cars but we really think it's there for multiple reasons.
You can sure flash older year versions over newer years but it might cause constant limp mode problems, loosing power, Check engine light, immobilizer problems, knocking, etc.

It's already been discussed that it is not possible to flash back to exact stock tune while SFR is the only company that collects and saves all versions of data allowing us to go back to exact stock version.

Our each ECU flash is using all based versions after receiving,seeing,pulling the ECU version labelled on the ECU that all calibration data of each ECU will remain the same under same version.

It will allow customers to run their cars safely with less troubleshoot.


5. Core/Pretuned ECU

What we started offering is cloning or offering pretuned ECU for owners while

stock ECU is pretty much untouched.

We've sure already covered all versions of 2009-2012 stock ECUs that we can

offer pretuned ECUs flashed in the same versions of stock ECU.

The owners can visit the dealership for major services with their stock ECU

while they can switch back and forth with our pre-tuned or Core ECU.


6. Bigger turbo/Injectors/Hicam/etc

We only offer canned tunes for stock turbocharger/injectors/etc.

Aftermarket intake/exhaust/o2housing/downpipe/mid pipe/FMIC are only

considered as "basic bolt ons".

We sure will be offering canned tunes for Staged packages in the future, and

we are still in process of collecting data for brands of

injectors,turbochargers,etc.

We highly recommend going for custom tunes if vehicle is equipped with bigger

injectors/turbos/etc since every car is different and it could be very dangerous

running canned tune for such equipped vehicles.


7. Rev limiter/Top Speed governor

We can only change the rev limiter on Manual tranny cars.

The usual and proven RPM bump is @ 7200rpm. Neutral RPM rev limiter is still

@5000rpm like stock. We can always change this but in case of dealers

checking things out with possible alternations, we didn't want to put

anything too obvious. Top speed governor will be taken out and there will be

no limit to the top speed.



- What parts to buy/what mods to do?

We have brands and parts to recommend in order to maximize the outcome of

the reflash. We've done quite many custom tunes for certain brands and

combination. Some wrong modifications such as taking out all catalytic

converters will loose power (Your car isn't 80's Honda civic). o2 sensors not

only monitors the amount of o2 but the temperature of the cat and etc that

if it is not reading right bascially A/F ratio map on ECU that is connected to o2

sensor would also get messed up resulting high risk of running extremely lean

or rich. If it runs lean, ECU will pull timings resulting loss of power as well as

running rich. So please contact us for any modifications prior or after the ECU

flash. We'd be more than welcome to help out selecting parts as well as

locating and giving the best pricings as possible. We'd refuse to tune certain

cars that have the parts already on the car we aren't really sure about. I



- Retune?

If you are only putting in some bolt on parts such as intake/exhaust/etc, you

don't need the retune. Flahsed ECU will act just like stock ECU that will

relearn itself overtime. It only takes few seconds to reset the ECU by pulling

the ECU fuse in the fuse box located near the battery. No you will not loose

the flash by disconnecting the battery or pulling the fuse out. ECU flash is

permanenant. ECU will go back to when we first flashed the ECU after the

reset.

If you are coming with other tuner's tune, we will have to charge extra to

returning ECU back to stock first to get the basedata made. So far we are

the only vendor that reuses the ORIGINAL stock data converted to tuned

data.

Custom Tune

We can sure offer custom tunes for bigger turbo/injectors/etc that we've been doing.

You can either pay the visit to SFR USA or grab us while we are doing the tour in your area.

We refuse to tune the vehicles that are equipped with anything that we think it's dangerous or will give problems on the dyno.

Please contact and provide us pictures of the set up and list of parts on the car prior to the tune session so we can give some suggestions.

We've already done Evo X/Evo 8/9 kit/19T turbo/GT35R/Precision 6262 turbo, 550cc/750cc/1000cc injectors, etc.

450rhwp Precision 6262 Turbo custom tune

19T turbo upgrade tune (303rhwp 333tq/lbs)

Stock turbo Stage 2 ( 270rhwp 331tq/lbs)

Optional Launch control



- Warranty

We don't guarantee anything about Hyundai's warranty with ECU flash. Get

this at your own risk just like any other aftermarket parts you put on.

However, it's not obivously seen or detected compared to any visible mods

such as intake/exhaust/etc.

We always use original stock data pulled then modified to tuned data, so all

the calibration data and other ECU functions remains exactly the same as

stock.

We also have just started offering the ECU core for those of people who are

really worried about their warranty, and you can keep you stock ECU and

tuned ECU.

Then, basically switch them out when you go to the dealer for any services.


- Feedbacks

As of today 02/25/2011, we've done little over 400+ Genesis coupes ECU flash

(both 2.0T and 3.8 combined) since July 2010.

We've been getting bunch of positive and "WOW" responses, but feedbacks

are all over the places that can't get all of them at one place.

Yes. We've already done 10+ 2012 2.0T Genesis Coupes using 2012's own individual's original data versions.
We do have an ECU reflash dealer in FL as well.

Very nice info Jay and I think it was a great Idea for you to compile all these video's and threads into one. So when the new guys and gals come to GenCoupe they do not have to post three different questions they can just come here and find out what SFR reflash is!

i think they are relocating their shop so Idon't know their new phone number.

Canned tune is $400

how much is their flash ?

i can find any info on there site.
and how much if it want them to just send me a Ecu with flash ?
Reg price is $550 but we are still offering at $400 for canned tune
Pretuned ECU is extra $250 so it's $650 for 2.0T

We do not advertise them on our website in case of dealerships finding out the relationships with our website for their customers' cars.
Sure we will get less sales but this is the main reason why you don't and won't see this on our website.

Great info here. I've always wanted to go with the br tune, but the more I read about this the more I'm warming up to it.

Jay, Maby you can talk a little bit about having gauges? I know when you start modding the engine you should be able to monitor it, but how safe are your base tunes, and how do you feel about not having gauges. And gauges I mean a/f ratio and boost.

I also recommend Exhaust temperature gauge if you can afford to get it as well.
This thread is basically self explanatory how safe our ECU reflash is that we are one of the vendors that is offering the tune for the longest time yet you do not see any major problems along after getting the tune.
Sure we have customers from babying the car to daily drive/weekend race cars (Drift/Gymkana/Track/etc).
As long as your car is catted properly and the actuator was never touched, you will be more than safe to run with the tune without gauges.

I have the Reflash and yes it Rocks, but i dont see how they are different from the other ones?? No one can answer which tune is better, SFR, BTRcc, BR, PA, ect ect... How can someone really tell? lol

Jay do you have a tune for 16G turbo?

^ Someone who actually tried them can ONLY tell! and nobody has done that yet.
Sure some of our customers have done their own comparisons with certain vendors' tunes and they don't wanna talk about it since again it's a very sensitive topic to discuss online.
Just upping the boost of 2.0T will be "night and day difference" being a factory turbocharged car.. but the main part of it is how safe/reliable without issues.
This is why we've been bragging about our tune that differentiates from others that we always reuse stock version/data for certain year/model/tranny/etc as mentioned above.

There isn't such thing as canned tune for upgraded turbo or injectors.
They gotta be custom tuned since every car is different yet they all have different bolt on mods. Sure I can tune any bigger turbos if it's set up right.

Yes that's what we are shooting for!
We try to keep our promise as much as possible.

Cool deal...also I was wondering could i run this tune on stock i/c with hardpipes and water/meth injection?
