[Big Toe]

During a timing chain replacement (infamous startup rattle), I had the timing cover pulled off of the engine and noticed some pretty significant carving on this metal surface. I don’t see any other damage and I can’t imagine that a rattling chain could have caused this. The oil pan is clean with no shavings, so i’m just curious as to what could have caused something like this

I've just seen that kind of carving. Looks not normal to me
