Summer Tire Replacement - opinions on these two?

Hello,

It's about time to replace my OEM Bridgestone RE050s on my 3.8GT that has the 19" track wheels on it.

I've basically narrowed down my choice to these two - the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K111 and the Continental ExtremeContact DW.

Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 Coupe 3.8&autoModClar=Track

Continental ExtremeContact DW Coupe 3.8&autoModClar=Track

This would be for daily driving with the occasional spirited moments but no track racing. Perforance handling is somewhat important to me, but so is wear, as I don't want to spend $$$ every year for a new set. Road noise is not that big a deal to me.

So, any opinions on which of these two would be a better fit for me? Anyone have experience with the Continentals? I tried to do a cursory search but with 41 pages on this thread, I got tired... :)

TIA for any opinions, advice, etc.

Hankooks, they have received very high marks in all the testing I've seen.
For the price of those Hankook and the performance rating it gives out, it's almost a steal. But I'll be running the Continental's DW this Spring because I really want to see how they perform on the track and DD'ing.
the hankook should be perfectly fine and they are priced lower than the continental tires. just curious...what made you choose between only those two?
How are the hankooks in heavy rain?
I see that OP lives in Wa, where it will rain A LOT.

btw OP, check out the meet thread in the NW section!
We've had heavy rain lately here in GA & my brother (dic51) has a fairly new set of V12s on his 3.8Track & said that they have done really well in the rain, much better than the stock Bridgestones. He felt that the Ventus V12s were quieter & had a better ride than the OEM tires as well.
Hankooks !
What were the prices at Discount Tire? The link provided didn't forward me to the correct info.

This ^^

Pplus there are a ton of people on this baord with these tires and I have not heard one complaint about them yet. I lurv mine
Hankook FTW.

I narrowed it down to these two from the price and reviews on TireRack.com.

And BTW, it hardly ever rains here in the PDX/Vancouver area. That's just a myth we perpetuate to keep everyone from moving here...
All Wet

:D
I think it's working!
The myth along with the wet environment is keepiing the population down.
Dude.
I'm moving.
your neighborhood. ;)
treadwear

only problem is, the hankook has a 280 treadwear, which is pretty damn low, so tread life would be my only concern, im in the market for tires myself, and a little unsure what to buy.
There is no perfect tire. More performance = less treadwear.

The V12 is just about the best performance tire, looking at all aspects, IMO.
both are awesome tires .. i just got a set of hankooks from discounttire ... best price i've found .. 795$ to my door including shipping brokerage and duties, etc .. at that price it's a steal!
^what specs?
Both of them test very well.

I would probably go with the DW over the Ventus v12 if I were to do it over again. DW's weigh less, have better treadwear rating and perform equal to or better in every category over the ventus V12 while being in the same price range. It's mostly the lower weight at the same performance that makes me wish I could change tires.
