So will we ever see a new Coupe from any manufacturer with the style, power and relatively low price of the Genny? Either new offerings are stupid expensive or they look cool and are under powered. I'm talking stock. Not something I would have to thrash to get up to snuff.

Or they're Mustangs and Camaros :|

There's literally nothing out there right now, I feel you - I'm starting to look around and I don't want to downgrade but I can't afford a Jag F-Type S lol

370Z, Stangs and Camaros, thats it. Performance under $50K, and even those you can see MUCH higher prices. Z tops out at $45-ish

I would have to go with the 370Z before the Camaro or Mustang. Nothing against those cars but they just don't look very exotic. Way too many out there. And I don't think either of those cars reach the HP of the Genny. (I could be wrong). Not planning on getting rid of mine right now. It only has 13k on it. Just thinking about the future.

With the masses moving to SUVs, big and small, and the manufacturers embracing the electricrification movement, it’s hard to see any serious manufacturer $$ being spent to develop a new performance coupe for such a small market.

MINI is played out, the Civic Type R is hideous, overpriced, and now a sedan like the WRX, and the Big 3 are seeing ever smaller sales numbers from their pony cars. The Z looks avg as there has been no evolution of the existing platform. They probably could have saved it by updating it with a GTR-like nose, but they’re too busy pushing us into Leafs.

Hyundai could still be a savior as I was told several years ago that a GT Coupe was destined for the Genesis brand. But if the G70 succeeds, as it appears it will, I don’t think Hyundai will bother with a coupe. All of their N-brand $$ are being thrown the way of the Veloster, and soon, the Elantra, I’ve read.

That leaves us with very expensive models like the Supra, BMW M, 911 (pre-owned), Corvette, and some Mercs, which don’t exactly inspire outside the AMG GT line.

Sad days ahead for this niche market.

The market has gone to a "horsepower is luxury" mindset thanks to all of the fuel economy and emissions standards. Lucky for those of us in the performance market, very few brands have the recognition to hold their value. While new powerhouse cars may be out of reach, one that is a model year or two old will likely be affordable. In order to get a beast of a car though, it's pretty much garenteed that you'll have to mod anything new.

Oh, silly me. I mentioned on the 370 forum, I drove a Veloster N a few weeks ago. Despite it being wrong wheel drive its THE BEST FWD handling car Ive ever driven and by far the quickest. its an AMAZING platform. My GF is looking to buy it in a few months.

cars are just get heavier larger and more expensive.

I had mine parts next to my friend's z32 and the GC is giant, yet my insurance considers it a sport compact, and they weigh about the same.
Back then the z32 was considered heavy.

Back then the z32 was considered heavy.
Blame technology for the weight. People generally want more "creature" comfort in their vehicles these days. That accounts for a lot of weight gains. That and the additional bracing needed because of flimsy panels.

No it doesn't. It's safety standards and manufacturers trying to find the cheapest solution to meet those standards.

There are other manufacturing techniques and materials that are lighter, but end up costing more, and then get's pushed to the customers.

Side note, the price of aluminum is more than the price of gold, by weight, in today's market.

A lot of people are buying 1988 Pontiac Fieros, and modding them. The platform is nearly indestructible and will take almost any engine you can throw in it (LS supercharged engines), as well as a 5 speed Getrag manual transmission. The 1988 GT model is a great looking car with the right paint job, and most of them with the LS motors are a 10 second quarter mile drag car. The 88 model has great suspension too.

The body is plastic and the front hood and rear hood are fiberglass The car is mid-engine. RWD. I used to own one, a '84 model 4 cyl. but the potential was there, but I had no money then. Check out the Fiieros on You tube. Many great possibilities!

Veloster N will probably be fun.
Mini Gp may look as weird as Civic R...
I still smile every time I open the garage and see the Gc.

Keeping mine though I had thoughts of selling my Gen Coupe. Not wanting to start over on a new build again so I will just keep improving my GC .Carbon fiber drive shaft and DSS half shafts next along with changing my current wheels from 19x9.5 (f) & 19x10.5(r) to 18x11 rears and 18x8.5 fronts .Maybe 2 years down the road ,engine build .5 years if needed, a paint job . I do the painting myself as well as all other work on my own car so it won't be too costly .Too many Mustangs and Camaros ,Dodge Challengers on the roads in my location , not many Gen Coupes .

I agree.^^^^ I'm gonna put like 80K on my motor the way she is, enjoy her as I've made her. Then I'm gonna pul the motor, Forge the low end, re-sleeve her, Timeserts, nutty head gaskets/studs,...............and push 32 psi.

** Gonna have level 10 lose the Torque converter, re build the AT, and like Strack, CF drive shaft,...oh and probably need a new.re-inforced rear diff. But thats in the future.

Yeah and about 25K,.....in parts

And im here just hoping someone will find a way to fit the new Garrett G series into the stock turbo manifold/housing to make the 2.0T come alive. (up top)

Lol, I like how this topic of "mourning the end of the golden years" comes up every couple of months. It is sad, mind you, I just find it amusing and ringing more and more true with the community as a whole. The new generations just don't care for the responsibility of an analog car designed for dynamic fun. They don't want to be on the hook for safety/reliability any more than they want to be responsible for remembering phone numbers or people's birthdays. Stuff is automatic and lazy now, and that trend is increasing. Pretty soon cool fun cars are gonna be the same market structure as mechanical wristwatches. Unfortunately, I severely doubt cars of our era will be road legal for as long as those of our great-grandfathers times were/are.

I think that's why the restomod is really coming into it's own, now. People want the style of the analog era, just not the troubles. I see that trend gaining a lot of steam in the coming decades.

As for the genesis coupe, I think it'll probably wind up like the Nissan S-chassis cars in the end. While those are disposable because they were drab, ours will be disposable due to brand recognition. But after a while, the rough gem nature will be recognized and they'll become ubiquitous for mods and swaps. Not as good in suspension geometry as an S-chassis, but a more rigid/sturdier foundation. Too bad the parts ain't cheap. And Hyundai's old model support will probably be terrible. Also, modern Z chassis, the Camaro, and the Mustang really just don't do it. They don't have any originality/novelty any more, even if their envelope is better on paper. And the high-po muscle cars are priced way out of gencoupe value.

Keep your eyes on first gen Evoras and Caymans, though. That stuff is getting pretty bargain-y, at least for what they are. And the ever gorgeous Jag F-type manual(supercharged V6) is slightly under $40k in some instances. Fat pig of a sports car, though - 3,700lbs EEEK! Also, literally only 4 manuals for sale in the country on car gurus. All in TX...

I have under 10,000 miles on my GC but in 2 more years I will be doing a twin screw blower build with forged rods,pistons,sleeve,prepped crank and valve train /heads with ARP stud and bolts,etc,etc .I will still keep the nitrous system .Body mods to include roll cage (non bolted) and reinforced sub frame and braced diff .Target will be a mild 550 to the wheel on the blower and 625 with Nitrous .The best part about the GC platform is there are many of these cars in the salvage yard so replacing parts or needing to get parts are of no problem .

Evora is a pretty car... Jag is that heavy? yikes.
