Like the title states anybody know if the OEM pilot bearing is symetrical? I mean is one side rounded on the edge & the other have burr?
I ask because I can get my tranny slid up through the gears up to the bearing & then it stops & I can't get my transmission to go any further no matter what. I'm thinking that maybe one of my techs pressed it in upside down, because I can feel a ridge on the closest side.
just checked it out..
looks to be the same on both sides

I may have you & every other member out there that wants that differential mount covered. ;)

It looks like I will be sending my KPR differential mount to [email protected] to replicate it for sale to the rest of the community.

I will keep you & everyone else posted on the progress.

update:
KPR mount boxed up & ready to ship to [email protected]
That's Good News!

hey where do you get the smaller battery?
Still running on stock battery since I can't decide on which aftermarket to go with yet. pretty sure it will be a Braille, but just not sure what model will put out enough cranking amps yet be the lightest.

just checked it out..

**** (not at you), but thanks. I can't catch a break! I realigned clutch gears with the better tool & called my pop over to pick up where we left off last time. We slid the tranny up only to be stopped about an inch away by something that keeps catching in the center that will not allow it to go in any further. I can even screw a few of the bolts in that hold the tranny to the engine, but I'm not willling to put it in that way. My dad has been doing this 50yrs & said he has never seen one not want to get back together this badly. I can go around to the crank & turn it easily to a poiint, then it gets diffficult for a while & then easy again.

That's Good News!
Yes it is good news. This is a highly desired item that will be rather inexpensive considering its size & simplicity. Everybody will want one. I believe that they probably have had mine for almost a week now taking measurements. I hope thiers turns ous even better as I will run it in lieu of the KPR if that's the case.

Damn bro!! This car treats you like mine does lol. As far as the clutch goes it sounds like all the ones I have done. I've had the trans out of these cars more than a few times lol. I usually start two or three bolts and use a stubby wrench to draw it in. I use the stubby so I don't have the ability to put to much ass on it lol. These tend to be hard for that last little bit goin in.

Do you have a shop mirror or something to stick in that inch and see if anything is hitting? Is it possible the jack point you are using on the tranny puts too much lift on the back (near the mount holes) and that adds tension so that it won't slide forward? I wish I knew more and could help, I feel so bad.

No offense to TVone2, but he just said it "looks" to be the same, it might not be, it could just be hard to see? Maybe it is the Pilot Bearing?

I feel bad that you have so many problems Jerry :(
Yeah me too, I have to work twice as hard as the avg Joe to get the same results. :( But I'm determineded to build this car!

I've had many trannies out & put several clutches in, but have never had this kinda of trouble before with a tranny going back in.

I have had several of the lower bolts in several times, but I'm afraid to use them to help pull it together. I just purchased a stubby prybar 18" that I could try that with that, but to be honest I've lined up every hole with screwdrivers & 1/4 long extensions to ensure she is level while I had someone stay up front to ensure it was aligned & balance on the floor jack while I pushed on the back of the tranny while pulling on the exhaust system for leverage as hard as I could with no luck.

I've tried many postiions for the jack for lifting of the tranny & the positiion I have determined seems to be best for lifting it without allowing it to fall easily, so it is dead center of the front to rear weight of the tranny. Once we have gotten it up where it is less likely to fall, we have moved it around a little more & after we installed a couple of the lower bolts we moved it a lot (enough to cause the entire engine to move around while still mounted) in order to try to get her to fall in.

When we pulled the clutch cover last night & checked the pilot bearing with out finger & best we could look at it installed, it seemed ok...just felt a little burr on the edge.

It's the same.. trying to go easy on the poor man! Damn.........
Well I did notice when the pilot bearing was depressed it was pressed to one side & not the other, the tech even bragged on how they pressed it to the edge like they were supposed too.....wonder if they pressed it to the wrong side?

This car is just going to be a battle with me until she is completely done!:squint:

^^ really? After all his troubles you add that?

TVone2, I just want to make sure all bases are covered and trying to help, I am trying to be easy on the guy. I feel bad enough that I would like to pass an e-hat to collect some money for Tufast. If Tufast want to post up his paypal email or PM it to those who ask, it is up to him, but I want to give him some money to help support him, i feel so bad, and he does so much for the GC community and I know his DIY will be crazy thourough. So I leave it in Tufast's hands to see what he wants to do, but I don't see why other gencoupe.com members wouldn't want to give $5-$20 to help ease some of the pain maybe?

Yeah I know & it will next year if the funds allow & I can decide on a coil over. Right now the Stance GR+3s seem to be what I will be going with unless TiC comes out in time on what they have been working on, which I assure will also be high quality.

I don't really need money for this issue, i just need ot figure it out & laugh about it later. One of my better techs is coming out Sunday to give me a hand & see if I'm overlooking something.

I am not saying you do need money for the situation, I just wish I could help as I am sure many of the members here do but we can't really other than something like that. But good luck with your tech's help, I hope you get it back together! :fingersx:

The help that members on the forums give me & the ideas on how to go about something or check something that I might have overlooked is worth a fortune to me & as long we keep assisting each other I will be ecstatic,

As far as the tech that is coming out Sunday to take a look, yeah I'm sure at least a 12pk of beer will be coming his way, I just hope he sees what I'm missing & gets her to go back together, because I truely don't get it & I'm ready to put ole girl back on the road to see just how good this clutch is. Besides, my other projects are coming together & are about ready to be installed.

Thanks for you support.

BTW I mounted the dual boost controller, ran the ground to it, began running the positive wire for the switch which is at least in the car now & I have a location for the switch.

I'm still working with one of the Honda techs on a mini radiator overflow bottle that came on certain model Civic hatches & the FMIC will be about ready to go in & the powercoating of my IC pipes should be ready any day now.:D

Once I'm through with all my bolt-ons (which are alot), I plan on trailering the car in on my car hauler pulled by my dad's diesel pickup to Forged Performance in Atlanta to be custom tuned on the dyno by Sharif using a PowerAxel unit that I've had sitting in a drawer forever with other parts that I still need to install. This will hopefully happen before it gets cooler in fall as I really want my car ready to hit the drag strip to see if I can get into 12s on stock turbo before I switch to the TD05-18G.

All the bolt-ons with OEM turbo & tune is what I call my Stage1 & the TD05-18G along with some CF parts installed & suspension upgrades is what I consider my Stage2. Both of these stages will be utilizing the PowerX with custom tuning by Sharif, but for my Stage3 I plan to use an aftermarket ECU, most likely Haltech. But everything is taking longer than I originally had planned due to poor luck, bad planning & finances hurting as of lately. I'm just glad I had purchased so many parts a long time ago, so that now I only have to install them. :D

BTW; For those interested, the tranny is bolted back up to the engine with the twin disc installed. I just have to install the shifter & my new fluid this weekend. YaY!

I don't know if you've tried this yet, but it's something that I learned on hot rods, back in the day. Sometimes the clutch is not aligned perfectly and will not allow the input shaft to go completely into the pilot bearing. Solution, connect up your clutch components and depress the pedal. Quite often you hear (and feel) a pop. That's the input shaft going into the pilot bearing. Sometimes a guy at the end of the tranny, to jiggle it around when you press the clutch, is helpful if it doesn't "pop". I'm sure you are way beyond this, or I'm not reading this thread right (or completely). But I thought I'd throw in some tricks I've learned over the past 25 years.

Thanks for the insight.

I've actually got her bolted back up & it seems that my tech at work that had pressed in my pilot bearing for me while I was helping a customer up front ended up pressing it to the wrong side of the flywheel. I then had to press it to the other side closest to the engine by slowly tightening the bolts little by little by hand all the way around the bell housing until the tranny seated against the motor. I got all the other stuff bolted back up like the ground, sensor, clutch line, reverse switch etc & did a M/T fluid swap going from Redline MTL90 (75w90) to MTL85 (75w90) which is what Hyundai is recommending now. I also made a few mods to my TiC shift lever to reduce vibration & reinstalled it.

I then bled off the air out of the clutch line & started her up with no issues, but when I depressed the clutch pedal to disengage the clutch there was a grinding sound similar to brakes that are metal-to-metal. The pedal was also pretty soft up top & kinda hard midway through. First thing I thought was the new internal slave cylinder/throwout bearing I installed was a bad unit. Then I talked to one of my techs at work who said to bleed the system alot more since I had replaced the slave cylinder there is probably more air in the system. I bled the system until the reservoir was very low & then topped the fluid back off. I checked the pedal & it still seemed somewhat soft up top, but very stiff down bottom. I started the vehicle & tried it again, but the noise still there although not as prevalent. My dad is going to bring home his vaccum bleeder from work & come over this weekend as I hope this will resolve the issue. I really don't want to have to pull the tranny again. :(

I have yet to have many of my mods go smoothly, so I don't expect this to be any different. However, I am very determined person & will not allow this to discourage me. Neither will I let my lack of funds lately keep me from work on this build. Now more than ever I'm glad that I bought so many parts when I had money & stored them, as it gives me something to do now without having to come off huge chunks of dough.

Im sure [email protected] performance will do good work. They went a long ways with their GTR. Good luck with the rest of your build.
I trust Sharif's tuning ability & look forward when I finally have all my bolt-ons installed so I can trailer this baby in. I know that 260whp is about all that I will see, but I'm hoping for a very linear curve & excellent response from car based on the mods that I have chosen. More importantly once this tune is complete, that means my Stage1 is also complete! Then Bigger & better things :D
