Why not use index cards? The color is OK but the over spray that diddnt come off looks like poop.
Haha don't worry that overspray is off now.. I like to let it set on the tire for an extra couple hours. Makes it come off nice and easy.

I never use index cards because If you use index cards the spray won't hit the top portion of your rim so ya. I took off all of my wheels and had my car on jacks during. I didn't want my lugs or caps sprayed I wanted to keep hem polished so I set those aside. Took the centre caps out too because I wanted to do a perfect job. Taking out the caps makes sure that the paint gets around every edge. A bit anal yes but hey.. I didn't mind spending the 2.5 hours to get it all done properly.

The 3 or 4 times I've done mine black I used the index cards and got the very edge no problem also helped a buddy do his blaze blue over the weekend and he used index cards got all his outer edges as well. Im done with plasti dip tho can take hours to do properly but only one A$$HOLE to decide to key it cause they know its a rubber coating.

For some people it depends. But as for how I do it for the business I never use index cards. I use to when I first started but just didn't see the point after the third or fourth time.

Lol all I can say to that is maybe its time to move locations haha. I had my entire car dipped for over a year when I owned my altima. And nobody keyed it and I had my business plastered all over that car so people knew it was a rubber coating.

Don't worry I'll take another picture when the sun comes out and they will look way better.. It's been raining in my city for the past month. Maybe 4 days of sunshine. Yesterday was one of them.

^^I'll be plasti dipping my next project car. The shell I'm picking up doesn't have the best paint job and I'm not shelling out a lot of money to have it repainted. It will basically be a weekend warrior/drag car, so it doesn't have to be real pretty :D

Any tips for plasti dippin a whole car?

**TAKE YOUR TIME** make it a full day job.
1st coat is always a light dusting. cover every panel of your car, but it honestly should look pretty spotty.. basically treat it like any other dip..
all the other coats, you want to make it look pretty wet.. itll still have its transperancy but you want the paint to look quite wet. this will ensure that smooth finish. well that coupled with the proper distance and slow but steady spray pattern.
**ALSO take the time to cover up the windows and lights... you waste too much paint if you want to peel it off those surfaces.
Last tip I guess would be to make sure your doing it inside.. even if its a nice day out, doing it inside will ensure little to no dust particles or any bugs landing on your car during the spray. make sure you have a mask as well use a wagner spray gun or something similar. If your going to buy the kit off of dipyourcar, make sure to get the one with the spray gun if you don't already have one. I bought my own gun and product separately and mixed up my own ratio of dip and thinner so ya.

Oh and let it dry atleast 15 minutes. you don't need to wait 30 like it says on the product. 15 minutes is more than enough time.

Then again if you don't need it perfect, just spray away lol. 6 coats should be enough.

Awesome info!! Thanks!!
I work for a construction company and we have a huge warehouse that I'll be using, so it will definitely be done within an enclosed area. The car won't have any interior minus the dash and a driver seat, so I'll probably just primer and spray paint the inside, unless you or anyone has a better suggestion. I'm really excited about this project, it'll be my first attempt at doing most of the body and paint work myself, so I don't expect anything to be perfect, it's more for the learning experience than anything. Plus the shell is only like $700 so I won't really be mad if anything goes wrong lol I'm crossing my fingers I can get the shell next week and get started the following weekend. If all works out, look for a build thread towards the end of next week or the following week :D

I should probably do this.. do you guys think a car cover would protect even the slightest bit against hail??

Doubtful, but it might help with insurance if you had to make a claim? Idk, I would think it shows you're at least attempting to protect it. :gc-wmscared0016:

Mmmm...spring cleaning...oddly enough, I really enjoy cleaning out/re-organizing/throw **** away. It's like therapy or something lol helps me clear my head, not to mention the garage sale that follows. I'm actually having a garage sale this weekend since my mom sold the house and we'll be moving. Been cleaning and packing for the past week. If I'm lucky I might make enough money to buy my shell, or at least pay for a good portion of it haha
