Today, I braved a drive home from work (roughly 45 minute drive, I get off at 7 AM...There was a big winter storm advisory throughout the night because of snow/sleet/rain/ice...

Entire drive back the roads were just wet, I went a good bit under the speed limit and made it home without any issue. Woohoo!

....Then I pull into my [email protected]#^ing development....

P-U-R-E I-C-E

I turned in, down a big hill, slid into a giant snow mound.

Here's a quick pick of after I got the car home and parked thanks to a neighbor:

Here's where impact happened:

Here's the hill I slid down(You can see to the left tire marks of someone who had to bail to the right so they wouldn't slide down into my car):

Anndddd the damage:

We pay to have our development salted, and it was not....I am very upset needless to say.

File a complaint or a lawsuit if the damage makes it worthwile. if you can prove there was plenty of warning, There should have been weather advisories all over the news.
WOW that sucks. You'd probably win a lawsuit, or they would settle. So a new aftermarket bumper and side skirt would run about..... not to mention replacing wheels on one side so go ahead and change out all 4. I'd say at least 4000 plus pain and suffering, so don't settle for less than 10k. BTW, where do you live, this reminds me a place in MN I used to live.
This is another good reason y I don't drive my Gen during winter
Damn, that sucks, dude. I remember hitting black ice in my subdivision, spinning out and going into a ditch years ago. I feel your pain.

Good luck with the repairs.

You wouldn't get pain and suffering unless you got injured or hurt pretty badly.
Thanks for all the replies...the insurance tried to put the person who is head of the development as liable because it wasn't salted, but since we pay for that stuff through taxes it is not their fault. I am completely Liable. It REALLY sucks because I assumed they would quote the damage, and cut me a check for anything passed the $500 deductible like other insurance companies did for my friend....(This way I could get an aftermarket bumper, have it painted then install it myself)...but apparently even if I choose my own shop I need to give them the contact info so they can cut the shop a check directly, she also made it a point to say OEM parts only. Damn all you kids who have previously tried this and got caught; they're catching onnnnnnnnnn! Lol. Urghhhhh. $500 deductible for OEM bumper >:| I think I may pass, pay for the wheel well out of pocket and just save up for an after market.

What do you all think?

What is all this lawsuit crap? People jump the gun on lawsuits for ever little thing. Sorry, your not going to win a lawsuit, a counter-suit would be you were speeding. Can they prove it? No, but you can't prove that you weren't either. No evidence means your liable.

The accident will be filed under comprehensive, as it is an "act of God". Collision is if you hit another car. Therefore you pay the comprehensive deductible, however your premium will not go up. This alters between insurance companies, but that's the jist of it.

I recommend lowering your deductible for comprehensive. For $16 a year, I lowered my deductible from $500 to $100, and I've already used it twice.

I'm not trying to be a d!ck, I'm just pointing out the facts of life.
I fully expected this thread to be about the Turtle Wax product.
To the OP:
That's a shitty situation, but you have come out of it fairly well. There's only minor damage to your car that I can see.
I had to replace the wheel well cover on my car, along with another plastic piece on the bottom. The 2 parts together were under 200 bucks.
The bumper isn't too bad. Mine is cracked similarly, I haven't bothered with it.
The fog light surround looks like it's repairable. It's also an excuse to get some aftermarket ones (I know insurance won't pay for that)

This would not be the way my insurance company handles it.
This is NOT an "act of God". An example of a comprehensive claim would be a tree falling on top of your car or something like that.
This is an preventable collision (winter tires, drive slower, don't drive down icy hills, etc). Single car accidents always end up being the fault of the driver under my insurance.

Bad news: your cars cracked up

Good news: youre okay and damage is not that bad. You can pop the fog bezels back into their slots by yourself. Insurance will cover the small damage(at least from what i see in the pics its not too bad) because the development didnt do what they get paid to do.

Good luck with everything!!

This is why I stated: "This alters between insurance companies, "

My insurance does file hazardous road conditions under comprehensive, as long as you don't hit another car.

I don't think insurance will cover anything because the damage may be less then $500 (deductible)
Blame P-diddy and sue for 600 billion dollers
Pish posh. There was a huge ice storm that just crossed our area. This is what we woke up to this morning:

There's no amount of salt that could prevent this stuff from sticking around. Sorry to hear about your car.

Makes me feel kind of okay with the torrential rain and 70 degrees we have here.

Make it a gazillion and I'm in.
Sorry I misunderstood what you said about the road salting business. I was under the impression it was part of a house covenant contract or a gated community type contract.
