A couple of months ago while washing my car I noticed a few tiny yellowish-orange dots on my front bumper very close to the hood. These spots could not be cleaned off and and could not be felt when running my finger across them. Over time they began to multiply and just last week the clear coat began to bubble and separate. I took the car to my dealer yesterday and they are taking the car next week to repaint.

The pictures below were edited to show more detail than in reality. That is not dirt you are seeing, it is underneath the paint!

Do you live near railroads? That looks like rail rust spots. They come off, but are very difficult to remove. Wax often to keep it from coming back.

I have the same exact problem. What did you do?
As I said, I took it to the dealer and they repainted the front bumper. Now the spots have begun multiplying on the rear bumper, so I have decided to wait till it gets bad enough to take it back for that. My 3 years are up at the end of next March so I have some time.

Right on, I missed that part first time I read it. I'm only at 2 years and my trunk is starting to do that too. I'm gona wait till I get a spare Ecu and then take it to the dealer. Just in case they try a reflash the awesome tune I have on it now. Thanks.

I noticed the exact same yellow spots on my bumper right where it meets the hood. I just had half the bumper repainted earlier this year for the clearcoat peeling but my warranty is now up to cover the paint. Would it still be beneficial to contact Hyundai directly and start a claim?

Just take it straight to the dealer. That's all I did and the girl who took care of me already was aware of the issue. Mines in the shop being done this week under warranty paint issue.

I ended up having parts repainted twice on my 2013. First the rear bumper clear coat was peeling, then a few months later the top of my rear spoiler started fading and turning white. My dealership painted under warranty both times, and gave me a rental in the mean time.

My bumper has had those yellow spots for 8 months now! Started small and eventually covered the whole length of the back bumper. 2 months ago it got worse and the clear coat started peeling.... I have the hyundai extended bumper-to-bumper warranty so I hope it gets covered... :/ Did you guys have to say anything? I called and the service manager didn't seem too optimistic that it would be covered (the warranty apparently doesn't include paint).

Once I brought it in and showed it to them they were aware of the problem. They took a photo of it and sent it to corporate and then I was contacted a few days later to bring it in. If your still covered, have a 2013+ white satin pearl and they still make an excuse, I'd contact corporate, they will be fully aware of the problem and you should be taken care of.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 pearl white. The clear coat on the front bumper is peeling off. They offered to pay 90% of the cost to repair it. However, I am not satisfied with paying for a faulty paint job. Why should I have to pay 10%? If they offer to pay 90%, they obviously know it is defective. My car is under the 3 year mark but they refuse to pay 100% because my mileage is over 36,000. The paint warranty is three years or 36,000 miles, which ever comes first. I am considering the BBB contacting BBB unless I get an answer that satisfies me today.

When I first called Hyundai to find out about the paint, I was told they were having this issue with numerous white cars. The last person I talked to said that information should not have been given to me. Why is it such a secret that their white cars have a paint problem?

Be careful with your car warranty......the Hyundai warranty isn't what you think it is.....there seems to be loopholes everywhere that covers Hyundai.

If you know it's caused from a defect, fix it-that's just good business. If they choose not to, it's becomes bad business to me.

I basically got told your - SOL....................I had 70,000km, and 2.5yrs old. Warranty was 60,000km/3 yrs.

I guess I'll have to save the $1000 cad to have it repainted because Hyundai isn't standing behind their product.

Note to self..............This will be my LAST Hyundai, and the last one in my family as well.

I have 44,000 and 2 years 11 months in this car. Their famous response is "it's out of warranty." The paint warranty is 36,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first. It's not like 44,000 miles of driving should wear the clear coat off of the bumper of the car. Now I am concerned about the entire paint job on the car. Going to take it to at least three different body shops for an opinion before but will be pursuing this issue with the BBB. Bad business is just bad business.

Sorry to hear about that, I'd be interested to see what the outcome is, make sure you update it here. There are obviously problems is many people are having issues with clear coat. Luckily mine happened while I was still under full warranty, and as I was coming up to the time where it was gonna run out, I made sure I looked over every inch of the car to look for other defects. While it sucks, if you're out of warranty, you're out of warranty... If they're offering to pay 90%, I'd probably take it unless you have actual evidence that there is a problem that they know about.

Mines had the pealing issue when I first bought it over a year ago. They repainted it at purchase. 6 months later I had the orange dot issue and now it pealing has returned. I feel the issue is either in the paint or the adhesive primer they use on their plastic panels.

SN: If you originally had a repaint done "under warranty" and your warranty expired after and the issue shortly returned you may still be covered. It would be no different than if your engine tanked at 95k miles got replaced under warranty and the new one died at 105k. The dealer is responsible for reasonable warranty repair and not just patch job until your warranty has expired.

I am surprised it took that long to show, typically it comes up within 6 months. BTW I would take the 90% I bet your bumper is full of rock chips and other wear by now.

Mu opinion is if they offer to pay 90%, they obviously realize it's a poor finishing job. However, you are probably right about taking the offer. I just hate it when people will not do what they know is right. The service manager at the local dealership told me a man brought his car in while under warranty. They fixed the front bumper at no charge to him. The back bumper clear coat began to peel but they would not cover it because it was a few miles over warranty. Makes no sense. A defect is a defect.

You're out of warranty and they offered to pay 90%? Legally they owe you nothing, and the white satin pearl is a tri-coat paint - very expensive. Take it and run.

For anyone with the orange dot issue. It looks like iron particles that penetrated the clearcoat and started to rust from the inside (IFO or Rail Rust). If you wash, wax and seal often and claybar every now and again they usually don't even appear in the first place. The Clay should also be capable of removing the metal and other debris from the clear. It's brutal on white & silver paint especially. On my car I've only got a handful of spot, and I bought mine used at 107k km. 143k km now and no additional spots because I take very good care of my paint and finish. I have yet to clay the car, so that'll probably happen early this year, maybe even before I drive it again out of storage. I need to go in for a new front bumper, and paint and repair the back bumper, so probably after that cures. Here's a little write up I found on this actually: Orange rust dots on paint - Team Integra Forums - Team Integra

On the peeling, the only spot I've had paint problems where it wants to peel away is right up at the corner of the fenders by the headlights and the hood. I think the Hood vibrates and chips the paint, so I have to touch it up every so often so it doesn't get worse. I also washed out my engine bay once and accidentally knocked a long strip of paint off right on the edge of the fender where it meets to hood. Only went down to the primer, so no bare metal, but I had to get the whole fender and bumper re-finished to make it look good again. :( I'll never make that mistake again though! Hahaha.
