This review will cover the approximate 1 month between now and when my 16g was tuned and installed.

I was one of the first to have the Kamak 16g's here in the states and I'm extremely happy i jumped at the chance and got one.

The installation is really over all pretty simple as this is a 90% bolt on turbo setup. Coolant lines will need to be modified and some slight adjustments will be made but other than that its pretty much the same as unbolting and bolting on the original. Ive done the install twice and id say it can be preformed in about 8 hours by a backyard mechanic or about 4 hours by an experienced one. Mine was custom tuned and used for the current canned tunes being sold so i do not need and MBC like the current canned kits do.

Over all i was very pleased with the staff of BTR with the way they conducted the tuning session and handled there customers. I saw quiet a bit of the above and beyond that i would not expect from other companies from helping diagnose problems to joining in on wrenching on cars that needed help in the parking lot.

Now the important part

The drive...

This is the car Hyundai should have made in the first place. Although there is slightly more lag with this turbo over the stock the difference is barely noticeable and you are easily into the power band quickly. If in sport mode 1st gear is useless in traffic even with my swapped 3.8 rear end (3.73 Gear) because i need to shift almost immediately. I havent had a chance to take it to the track yet but i should be soon. This went from being an everyday commuter car to a car that i really enjoy driving and cant wait to get behind the wheel. I get the urge at lunch break on work to go drive the country back roads then actually eat. I just simply cant stop driving the car its so much more enjoyable now.

On those back roads coming out of the twisties the power can be overwhelming at first and i strongly recommend keeping TC on until your used to your new found power. The power out of the turn is instantaneous and punchy when you first apply throttle but smooth through the power band and pulls very well through all the gears. Overall im very pleased with the Turbo the BTRcc crew and Kamak guys who made the trip to ohio to see our cars get tuned.

I strongly recommend anyone with an auto looking for a good bump in power to look at the BTRcc option. don't be intimidated by the install its really pretty simple! and myself and the couple others who have this kit are more than willing to help you out with any questions you may have.

Now i need to build the motor and grab a 20g :)

Nice review man!

what other mods do you have.. i feel your a tad bit low.. maybe cause it's a auto.. but still seems 10-15hp to low

Lol... 10-15hp low is pretty much negligible. The amount of variables is so wide from the dyno to the temp to the size of my epeen god only knows where that 10-15hp you think i should have is hiding. :). Frankly i could give 2 shits less about the numbers as long as it drives and feels the way i want it to im happy.

well it's not being psuhed 100% and it is auto so 320-330whp is asking A LOT. 300whp is reasonable.. and idk how you consider 10-15hp negligible, people spend hundreds of dollars for 10whp and with a turboXS FMIC i doubt ambient air would play a big role... but your right as long as you feel happy with the way it feels is what matter, is your money lol

ya its for sure tail happy that's why i made mention that TCS should for sure be used for the first few runs around turns until your used to the car. Even with my Conti DW's she slides out sideways once i hit full boost and it can be a pretty scary experience the first time it happens :) . All in all im very pleased with it and i cant wait to go bigger!

And at your SFR sticker I almost spit my drink out when I saw it.

Glad to see a couple auto's finally doing what should have been done along time ago! Great build keep it up man! I do feel that turbo is a little laggy for the auto but is a much better alternative to a big massive very laggy turbo. I know on mine once you got going the boost was there no matter what. I will be up your way soon want to get a ride in that car to see how it feels compared to my old setup. BTW The headlights look great to man!

If you were one of the first just a month ago I must have been really one of the first back in february.

I agree this is a great turbo! A bit laggy but I enjoy the lag. I haven't dynoed mine yet but it definitely pulls hard. Meth is going on this weekend and this turbo is gonna be maxxed here shortly. Dyno to follow.

Evo X injectors run like 680cc on our cars and according to BTR and their canned 16g tune they run 20psi and the IDC should always be between 80-90%

The more I read about the products from BTRcc the more it reassures me I'm making a good choice to go to them for my power needs
The lag will suck since I'm used to the stock power response but I wouldn't mind sacrificing that for higher top end and that awesome power band! Love how that torque peaks and stays constant pretty much throughout!

I would love to have more lag. Never thought I'd say that, but the stock turbo is just silly. I hate that my BOV opens up when pulling out of the driveway. It's plain embarassing.

Maybe an 18g is the way to go for bolt-on. I know my 16g on my DSM spooled pretty fast, and I think with the Dual VVT on these engines, a 16g will spool even faster.

anybody have experienced with the 18g?

I have a 16g turbo with a custom turbo mani I will let you know about what rpm it spools up in when I get it installed in the next couple of weeks ;)

I remember googling the STS design when it first started popping up and there was some question as to if it caused quicker spool. Now iirc kinugawas was the same turbo more or less but much cheaper and no sts stamp, nearly half the price. Has anyone compared the two to see when they make full boost and if its worthy of the price difference? If there is a difference which id assume is it comparable to say twinscroll?
