Hey guys. Just won a repoed 2010 2.0T track that I should be getting in the next few days. Problem is is the dash won't light. Does anyone know or have any ideas as to what would cause it?

Ok so I checked ALL of the fuses, and checked the dimmer. Nothing. The door ajar light and the key light both show up but nothing else. I cant get the accessories to light at all.
Does anyone have ANY ideas as to what would cause this?

Are you talking about the warning lights or the IC background lighting? The IC lighting should be on anytime the key is in run. The climate and radio controls run through the dimmer switch.

You can create a free account at https://www.hyundaitechinfo.com/ that has all the wire diagrams. Works best with IE and allow pop ups.

So you're saying it could be the dimmer switch? Ill check it with a voltmeter tonight. If its not that what else would it be? I can have access to the wiring diagrams but there is a LOT of electrical components it could be and I'm not sure where to start...

The easy way is to connect it to the Hyundai service diagnostic computer. The BCM using the CAN buss does not send out discrete signals to test.

But I doubt if the BCM itself is bad, There has to be some connections or module missing.

The only way you will figure this out is to study the wire diagrams and learn how Hyundai controls things,

The bottom line is if it is a light it will take 12v to light it up, it will take some time. EDIT: These being LEDs would probably get 5v

Grounding is extremely important too as that is what most of the inputs to the BCM are.

The problem is the BCM turns the lights on and off. The BCM is a computer module. It sends out signals over the CAN buss to the IC which has it's own CAN module and then uses the signal to turn on the lights. It's not normal electrical wiring. The CAN buss is a communication protocol.

If you look at the Hyundai schematics you see a block called MICOM, this is what is carrying and processing the communication signals.

Ok that helps a bit. Ive heard of CAN bus's but never really understood what they were / how they worked (especially for the car) Any chance you could shed some light on how it works exactly in moderatly simple terms? I understand wiring and signal path's but not really computer circutry

Hahaha well I dont have it memorized but I understand how it works by sending 1's and 0's in series to convey data, Im more lacking in the area of how and what uses the CAN Bus and how does it use it.

So the running lights come on when you turn them on but if you turn it to headlights nothing comes on

The door locks work, the trunk pop, and the gas lever both work

The start button works (lights up and makes the key light come on when you press it on the dash)

All fuses are good everywhere : /

What unit would control/ stop accessories from coming up when you press the start button the second time? Or do they even come up when you don't have the key near?
