So after reading through I understand an extension harness has been made and tested. Is this harness available yet? Assuming the firewall access hole on driver side has to be widened to fit harness through, unless another solution was found. Lastly, where is the ideal spot to mount ecu in cabin?
Donno if I missed these details in past few posts

The first being that the throttle driver chip inside the ECU generates a LOT of heat, which cannot be helped, just heat sunk as best we can.

Nothing against Haltech or HaltechAdam... but I've yet to encounter something that, truly, "cannot be helped" in engineering. Your "cannot be helped" reads to me more like "we're not changing design or restarting R&D".

A high priced extension harness on top of a premium priced stand alone ecu, is honestly, just convenient. But solutions are solutions I guess. If the fan heatsink things work out, even better.

Ummm, I've been using my Haltech with my fans for about a week and a half now, it works great, ECU temps barely get to 153F. still about 10F from failure at 101 ambient temps (Puerto Rico)

A properly designed fan inside the casing itself would obviously be ideal (and significantly smaller), but I just went with the easiest idea to execute.

Haltech work fine for me, the only time it freaked out was from a 21+ hours road trip from west texas to Maryland and it was raining, on the way back it was fine. Other than that, here in west texas temps get to be 100+, so a vented hood would do just about right. I have noticed that when the HID are on or i try to adjust my seat the idle drops, other than that I think I have almost perfect idle and starting the car after it has been heat soaked. I also advanced the timing at idle and it seemed to help. ECU temps average 155.

I only say this for those who are keeping track of overheating issues.

Heat kills anything.

I'm gonna leave it to Haltech to release details about their harness, since it's their product and their information. I will say that I have the prototype on my car, it works, no drilling was needed to pass it through the firewall, and my ECU is suspended under the A/C duct under the driver's side dash. Temps are low. I'm still in the process of finding a prettier, more permanent way to mount it and get great pictures of everything, as it's awkward as hell down there. However, I'll be sending everything along to Haltech along with datalogs of all my long drives as I've been doing for weeks and they'll be able to choose what best will make the installation guide. There is plenty of room for the harness and ECU under the driver's side dash.

Also, the measurements I sent them were extremely liberal. I could have probably done with 1.5-2" less, but that also means that this length harness could theoretically lead to many other mounting positions. Measurements on everything will be sent to them this week, and I'm sure they'll be moving ASAP to determine how best to proceed regarding harness extension production.

These are great news. I can't wait for an official solution. I also wrote to Adam. This overheating issue is the only thing preventing the product from being perfect :)

This is kind of a beating around the bush solution. The Haltech unit should be able to withstand the same temps the stock ECU does, in the stock location, without malfunctioning.
One question I have as a future Haltech owner is: Does mounting the Haltech in the cabin make it easier to connect it to a laptop via USB for active monitoring?

That being said I would really like to purchase one of these soon so I hope these issues are resolved.

Well the USB is pretty much idiot-proof to begin with. Pass the long cable they include through the firewall and wrap it up when it's not in use. However, now I can easily unplug it from the ECU while driving if need be.

I think from their perspective, they're weighing how much they've spent already on R&D, manufacturing costs and HR costs plus shipping for warranty, etc., balancing that with the cost of engineering a solution and either retrofitting all existing units, sending out new units to everyone, or R&D-ing a new Platinum Pro line, vs the cost of just building and selling harnesses and ALL of that weighed against their projected market for the product. If they're saying the unit cannot be re-engineered, I don't think they mean that in a perfect world, it is impossible for it to be re-engineered, but that they cannot afford to do it. In fact, from what they've told me, I'm fairly certain that they would pull the product rather than do that, and then we'd really be ****ed.

So, the added cost of the extension blows, but it's a necessary evil in our case, until another product comes out that does not have any issues at all.

Fans, yeah, but you're still seeing it over 150*, right? I had an ECU that malfunctioned past 130*...

hot dang

They go past 150 (to about 153) on really hot (as in, 101F ambient temp) days. Normally I see about 140, at night it never goes past 120F

One of my clients is trying this

UPDATE:
IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!

Lolwut... *ahem* Sorry. What is that? Where's he planning to mount it?

It's under the steering rack, works fine. We drove around for about an hour, no issues of it falling off or anything ;)

I'll see if I can get some pics soon

Good that connectors made it through and better yet didn't need the extended harness.. However... Where is he planning to mount it? Don't think there's much room there..
