Hey guys!
Sadly, two weeks ago I got into a major accident where a woman smashed my right side. As much as I would want to repair and keep my 2009 Gti my parents want me to sell my own car I bought for something better. As much as I didn't want to I must agree this car did give me many problems which were hard to afford. However, I need some advice on which of these cars (or any choices) would best suit my need. Currently, I'm stuck between a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 automatic w/49k miles ($8.9k) and 2013 Veloster turbo automatic w/38k miles($9.8k) (the car will be shared with my girlfriend and family which can't drive manual and only 2.0t for insurance reasons. I want to try to get both a reliable and tunable car for under $10k that will have low miles that can be "quick"( I'm not entirely looking for a fast car but something I can have fun in), since I'm paying tuition out of pocket I'm looking for a car that will last me at least me for 6-7years w/low mileage (under 65kmiles) clean title that would be able to be modded fairly well for around 300hp. Due to some research, these were my best picks. The Hyundai Genesis is an absolutely beautiful car but after test driving one I found the visibility very poor, much harder for me to drive/park and for 2010, the interior felt kinda outdated even when compared to my 2009 Gti. My daily life consists of spending time with my girlfriend, family, and friends and we all love doing a small road trip in state and etc. but yearly drive about 8000miles in busy areas (mainly college and amusement park areas). Since my girlfriend also got a medium sized dog we all felt it would be very unpractical for our adventurous lifestyle and would get very uncomfortable for these frequent trips, especially now that were traveling to the beach, lakes, out of state and etc. that would require a minimal amount of off-road but enough space for everything we bring. The only pros I could see with this car for be based on my crazy lifestyle is the ability to reach over 320whp easy with just a turbo swap safely(w/ correct bolt on and tune), amazing exterior design, and ability to mod as much as I desire for the next upcoming years. The Veloster turbo wasn't really on my list until I saw one in person and was blown by how weird, quirky and amazingly awkward this car was to a point I liked it. The exterior of this car, in my opinion, isn't as good and aggressive as the 2010 Genesis coupe but has such an "awkwardly pleasing" appeal to me. The weird third-door makes it easier for guest to enter the car and exit without the need to put the front seats down every time which would definitely get annoying. The interior of the car was absolutely amazing regarding comfort and was something both me and my girlfriend agreed would be perfect for our trips and perfect for my girlfriend to drive when we had to switch drivers, something she couldn't have said for the Genesis. However, the design of the car definitely did trick us into believing this car was going to be a quick my stock mk5 GTI. Right off the bat, the power felt somewhat weak and desperate for a tune with every acceleration. This isn't so much as a big concern for me now, as I would definitely be doing a full bolt on upgrade w/ tune to make roughly 260whp/300hp. As you can tell from owning a Gti I love hatchbacks to death but the GTI, in particular, was very difficult for me to maintain and often made me concerned if it was even safe for me to drive before another check engine light came on. I heard Hyundai has stepped up their game drastically and the 10year/100k miles warranty won me over as well, I heard they are much more reliable then Volkswagen and definitely more affordable for parts. I don't mind resale value later on at 100k miles because after 6-7years of use I would hopefully be ready to trade into another car by then. Although these are my top 2 choices right now mainly because of miles, reliability and tunability any comment on which car is better/ any other suggestion will be appreciated.
Thank you, guys!!!!

Bk1 (10-12) 2.0 genesis is not reliable when you try to push it close to 300whp on larger turbo or past 220 whp on stock turbo (190whp stock).
Plus you are looking at spending lots of money tunning car just to make it accelerate decent. 2.0 will always feel sluggish unless you are in boost.

Veloster seem to fit your lifestyle and car sharing better.

If you want genesis - 3.8 is best if you want reliability and ample amount of DD power right out of box (torque) so you don't have constant need to try to modify it.

The Veloster is known for and does have extremely poor rear visibility/blind spots. Sitting in the back seat also puts your head right up against hatch window. I test drove a new 2015 for my wife while car shopping and I couldnt get it back to the dealer's lot fast enough. Modding to try and get near 300hp will cost you and take any long term reliability out of it.

Buying any sporty/quick "sports car" that has low miles and under $10k will unfortunately get you a car that has probably been abused to some extent and have some reliability issues.

Really any turbo car, if going for big gains then you throwing away realiability, or throwing turbo on NA car.

Not sure on your location, but you can grab 3.8 Track package with 60ish k miles for around 9-10k with 6spd auto transmittion.
Keep in mind that Gen has two different auto transmission (BK1 only), garbage 5spd auto that comes in base and GT, and ZF 6spd auto in track package (faster acceleration due to gearing, and stronger trans ).

I would not call my 5AT garbage. It is a Nissan transmission. Mine works fine, but keep in mind I have changed the fluid twice and added an in-line filter. The ZF transmission is much more expensive to maintain. I am pushing 113k miles and my car runs great. The back seat is not at all bad, but the headroom is. A short person in the back seat can be quite comfortable. Yes, the BK1 is not stellar in performance, but I find it still entertaining to drive and fine for my purposes.
