Just got a letter from them, they would like to buy me car back ( 2012 gen coupe 2.0t r-spec) for 110% of its value.

They claim there is a huge waiting list in my area and would also offer $10,000 off the msrp of any other car in stock.

i find the shortage funny because they had 6 when i was there 4 months ago to buy mine.

any one else get any thing like this?

Wow. It took me a while to find a 2.0 R-spec near me, and now there is absolutely none at any of the dealers. I would ABSOLUTELY jump on this, assuming it's legit, as long as they had something else that I wanted. But for me, only another gen coupe would replace mine.
Also, it sounds a little crazy to me for them to give you 10k off a car.... I would be skeptical.

Heres the letter word for word

"Liberty hyundai is in desperate need to acquire several pre-owned models in order to fulfill special used vehicle requests. Our managers have been authorized to buy back your gen coupe 2.0t.

We would like to exchange your coupe for any new hyundai vehicle blah blah blah blah blah we will be offering up to 110% book value for selected vehicles plus up to $10,000 of msrp"

its from the dealership i got the car from.

Do it. Just wait until they have a new car of what you want and buy that for 10k less. That would be pretty sweet. I'd go talk it out with those guys there.

are there any disclaimers that you need to put under a microscope to be able to read it? LOL

If it is not a scam...DO IT. Plastidip the chrome on the new 2013 grill to blacken it out and wait for a cool after market one to come out. Actually, the new grill is not as bad as the fake hood scoops in my view. $10,000 off MSRP does seem a bit like a Nigerian 419 scam to me.

interesting...i got a similar letter from Fairfax Hyundai in VA claiming they are in need of vehicles like mine. don't think it had the $10,000 off deal, but there is a big trade-in event in March and will offer above blue book value. it looks legit, especially since it's on dealership letterhead lol.

my GF got a letter like that from toyota. They have no Yari's apparently. BUt we went to the dealer and everything, they are willing to buy back the car for = to what she bought it for, she's added 20k miles in 1 year. But the condition is she buys a car on there lot. The value is only if you'll be getting one of there cars, on the lot no special orders, they said either used or new. So this is a good deal for people that want to bump up to the 2013 Gen coupe or if you knock up a girl changing over to a family car.

tru tru, but def worth bringing it in when test driving the '13 if its out in March :D

#18 ·
^ not a bad idea. Im sure you could definitely find someone here who loves the 2013 front and would be willing to do it

#19 ·
I would do it and go get the Genesis Sedan R-Spec.

#23 ·
it does seem too good, and my guess is the '13 Gen would be excluded.

They are offering you 110% of WHOLESALE BOOK VALUE. Book value on your car is probably like $15K so add another $1,500 to that to know where you would end up.

Since used cars have increased in value like 30% in the last 6 months I'd say NADA is probably well behind the going rate.

The $10K off MSRP is just a teaser. It says UP TO $10K off. So that would mean like if you bought a $55K left over Equiss, you might get $10K off. But I assure you that you won't get crap off the desirable models out there, like a ''13 GC.

Good Luck.

I have received a few of those when I had my civic coupe. It's all marketing, and you going to the dealer to see if its legit is exactly what they want you to do, lol!

Its no harm going tho. If you check out the new coupe and like what you see, and are happy with the amount they are willing to give you, then I would say that is winning by any rational persons definition.

Freak it, go check it out, have the porters clean your car while your test driving whatever car you want. It's never a bad thing to drive someone elses car. lol

First off, let me clarify the msrp prices for the 2013. my older brother is an owner of a Hyundai/ Kia dealership. He told me the 2013 r- spec WILL be just $2000 more than the current 2.0. So around $27 at a dealership wanting it for more money. V6 he said they are selling the top end model for around $37,500 at most. But that's here in Texas. Secondly, I asked my brother about the letter you're taking about.... He said dealers are sending requests out for buybacks. Unfortunately you will be unable to have the offer apply to the new Genesis. :-\. And there is going to be about a 25% chance you'll be able to have them go through with the deal.
