Anyone have a PCV valve go bad?

Pics...?

Not on this motor no. But on my RB25 yes I have. Pretty easy fix tbh. Either you purchase the OEM one or purchase a 1 way vacuum check valve and place it in the hose connecting the valve cover to the IM.

I bought and have a new one coming but haven't taken mine off to test and see if that is the problem.

However I have oil. Lots of oils.

LOL did you have oil on your lips? ;)
Only 1 way is air supposed to be able to flow past and that is from valve cover to IM, if you're blowing both ways then you def have a broken PCV valve, though some check valves don't close until a certain amount of psi; your lungs can MAYYBE hit 2psi LOL. I would go to a local hardware store and get a check valve and place it in the hose for now until the PCV gets in. You can do real damage without it working properly, and prematurely damage your engine.

:gc-wmscared0016: last time I thought my PCV valve was bad I had to rebuild my motor:door:
I hope your PCV IS bad Steve :(
What were you symptoms ?

I remember when my PCV valve when out on my RB25. I seriously went nuts lmao. Couldn't source a new OEM one so just purchased a .75 cent check valve from usplastics and it worked like a charm!

500whp RB25

It should only allow air one way. Shake it, it should rattle. Shoot carb or brake cleaner through it and see if that fixes it up till the new one comes in. Should be able to pick one up at the local parts store, though.

I replace mine every so often just because its cheap, easy, and I see it as a part that can fail kind of easily.

Won't hurt to change her out.

See, I was told that this one should NOT rattle because of the spring. And if it does rattle, then it's bad.. Mine rattles. Apparently if you go buy a brand new OEM one, it doesn't rattle.

I replaced mine recently, my used one and the brand new one rattled. I'm under the impression that the ball acts like a checkvalve that lets air flow through it when the intake manifold is under vacuum, and seals when under boost.
I'm assuming your new one was not OEM though..?

Aftermarket ones will and should rattle.

excessive oil in my air intake. light smoke out my tail pipe.
You want to perform a "leak down" test to confirm the health of your pistons/rings. Compression test is not enough.. Most PCV valves should rattle. it confirms the ball is free to move around as it supposed to, not stuck in one position. weather or not it is seating properly is the question.

Think about it...If you can go WOT. I assume you do not have a boost leak. PCV is most likely not your problem.. Maybe your turbo sh@t the bed again? or worse..
-Brand new turbo - Less than 500 miles
-All new lines - Less than 500 miles
-New clutch (just sayin lol) less than 500 miles

Catch can is blowing out.. PCV makes sense. I hit boost, Its not sealing, Its blowing the oil out of my catch can and into my intake.

I took off the inlet hose to the catch can, and blew, and a significant amount of oil blew into my intake. Meaning that any amount of positive pressure would cause that to happen..

I have pics but I rather not post them just yet.

I'd like to mention is was fine before I put it away for winter. It sat for 4 months.

Can I borrow that? I only have a compression tester lol

I have no idea.. I never bought a new one. I know mine doesnt seal 100% every time..

Snoop is who told me it shouldn't rattle.

Pcv valves in turbo engine applications have been issues for a while. Ball bearing just doesn't cut it.

They make check valves that react to pressure changes way quicker then ball bearing. On my dsm used a plastic style with a flapper style valve rated up to 45psi +\- and made to withstand petroleum and heat applications. Really noticed difference in oil consumption on a dsm.

Can find at most auto stores, Home Depot racing. Or on line. I used a manufacture website and got a bunch for pennies each. eBay will be more pricey usin middle man.

Where is this hose you all are talking about going from the valve cover to the intake manifold? I'm pretty sure I know which one you're all talking about, but I stuck a screwdriver all the way through mine and it doesn't have anything in it. Just a hollow hose going from the manifold to the valve cover.

The hose I'm talking about is the one that is removed on the cold side to install a catch can on that side. The one with an outer covering on the hose. Is this the right one?

It was suggested that my rough idle may be due to a leaky PCV valve, but I don't know how to check that if I can't find it.

Thank you. So it's not IN the hose, the hose connects to it. I misunderstood.
