It's probably the sensor working as it should and telling you the cam is over advanced. More than likely a cam phaser issue. If a lot of miles may be a timing chain issue. It's located near the engine lift strap on the rear of the motor.

Got a lot of miles? Might be the timing chain. You would have to take the cam cover off to see.
