ok so i have an issue. i have a check engine light and a gas smell in the cabin when i go anywhere over 80% throttle.

i took it to the dealer and they cleared the code and said it was for the evap system but found no leaks. im like awesome. then it came back....

im going to go ahead and relate the two issues together and say that there is something that cant handle the pressure of me going wot and failing, giving me the gas smell and leak i.e. check engine light.

ive only owned the car for about 4-5 months and not to familiar with it. anything i should look at before i start throwing parts at it.

gas cap, maybe some type of purge valve?

if anyone had any suggestions id greatly appreciate it.

Don't do anything yourself, tell the dealer to fix it, the light just doesn't come on for no reason, there is a problem. The fuel evap system leak codes are usually very hard to diagnose, and you need a smoke machine to find the problem. The smoke machine has attachments so it can pressurize the gas tank with smoke and then you can see where the smoke leaks out. Or, you can attach it hose from the purge solenoid to look for leaks on that side of the system. Anyway, this isn't for the backyard mechanic and you don't want to be tampering with it. Emissions related parts are covered by an 8yr, 80k mile warranty so let the dealer handle it.

Also, on our cars (I work on Hondas) if you "top off" the gas tank then it forces fuel into something called the "two way valve" and ruins it, and sets an evap. code. You should never top off; when the gas pump clicks off then it's full.

understood.

if they dont fix it i obviously will. ill bring up to them the possibility of the gas overfilling issue, im the 3 owner so i dont know what they could have done.
