Okay so we all know Hyundai has the best warranty in the country!...which is why I'd hate to void that warranty. Would putting my aftermarket exhaust system(ark) void the warranty? cause as i much as im dying to install my new exhaust system, i dont think i will if it voids the warranty.

yeah what i was thinking was emailing my dealer before i install it, if they agree that it does not void my warranty under the magnuson-moss act, then great i have it in writing...if they disagree, then idk let the fighting begin? because everything else should be covered that the exhaust couldnt affect.

Be thankful you have the magnuson-moss act...........

In Canada we have no such support from our laws to protect us from dealerships denying claims based on aftermarket products. Our only recourse in arbitration which takes almost 4 months and guarantee's nothing but supporting the manufacture.

All Hyundai Canada does is state "any alterations to the vehicle are not covered by warranty"................and if we put anything on were screwed.

Just be thankful the US government isn't afraid of the auto makers like Canada is......Stuff like this is dealt with on a case by case basis

This is true but in Canada the dealer will also install certain approved "aftermarket performance" parts (at a huge mark up of course). If you buy the same brand and install it yourself (at probably less than 1/2 the cost) the only way they could deny warranty is if they could prove the part wasn't installed correctly and that caused problems. So, in effect, if you stay with the approved brands there's a lot less "grey area" to the warranty in Canada.

I'm assuming different states do it differently, here they can't deny warranty because of mods, the only exception to that rule is if, the mod (exhaust in this case) is the cause of whatever you're having warrantied, I have an exhaust, and an aftermarket tranny cooler, neither of which is an issue for the dealer here, they were actually happy for the tranny cooler, because they know people who drive hard in the heat have issues with the tranny.

For the record, I have called Hyundai Canada regarding an aftermarker BOV install. The lady on the phone was very nice and said that no, changing the BOV would not void the warranty for the REST of the car, unless what is broken is a direct result of the BOV. And for what it's worth, in 2004 I bought a brand new Mazda3 2.3 and installed a cold air intake. Not too long after, I threw a CEL and brought it to the dealer. A wire was loose on the MAF sensor, which was plugged on my CAI, and their repaired it under warranty without any questions.

Also might want to keep in mind that Hyundai dealers (at least in Canada) DO sell aftermarket parts for the 2010-2012 coupes, and they are waiting for aftermarket parts to be available for the 2013. A little bit hypocritical to sell parts that would void your warranty don't you think?

Dealerships in my area are more than happy to install "Hyundai performance parts"..............however if you purchase the same part directly from "their" manufacture (AEM, eibach, etc) it won't be "Hyundai approved" and therefor is like any other aftermarket parts.

I ran into this problem with my MC Accent, I ended up purchasing the "Hyundai approved" intake at twice the price of the AEM one, however when it came to warranty work I always had the receipt to prove it was a factory accessory.

Twice they tried to blame the piston slap on this "aftermarket intake", and twice I had to get Hyundai Canada involved to straighten it out.................in the end it was still never fixed, so I traded the ticking time bomb in and took a financial hit, which has left me with sour grapes and a bit of a chip on my shoulder toward Hyundai.

This why my car only goes to the dealership for warranty work, and I have my paper work in hand when they try to deny anything......Just call me Mr. Asshole

So I was bored this morning and took 2 minutes to call Hyundai Canada. I asked if installing an aftermarket exhaust or air intake would affect the warranty of the rest of the car. The guy assured me it would only affect exhaust related warranty or intake related warranty. Therefore any unrelated issue would be covered as it normally would. He then said to have fun modding!
