Was looking at getting a Genesis Coupe was just curious how they were in the winter.

I made it through this NH winter with snow tires with a 2.0T premium ( no LSD)
Just had 17" wheels and studless Michelin snow tires.
I should have spent the extra $30/tire for the nokian Hakka 5s though.

a suggestion from a friend; put sand bags in your trunk. ill try it in 6 months and let you know how it goes.

To be honest, I don't think any car is safe in the snow, it all depends on how you are driving your car. It also depends on the extremity of the snow. Last year in NY in my area, the snow wasn't too bad and my car is a daily driver. I remembered to stay careful while I was driving and I had no problems. It would be a good idea to put something heavy in the trunk so you can distribute that weight.

I guess you lowered your car because my car sits in the winter on 17" Nokians and does not sit ANY lower then my 19" stock.

I don't bother with studs to much. Look for a high sidewall, narrow & quality winter tire that fits OEM diameter. There is plenty of choice in the 17".

IIRC there was a classic mustang driver that got killed in a head on accident, because the sand bag broke through the back or the rear seat and struck him, or something like that.

I could be wrong, but am too lazy to find the article.

The car weighs about the same as a 300zx z32, which most consider to be heavy.

The Gen has very even weight distribution so unlike older RWD cars ( I have no clue about a 2000 mustang) there is not an extreme lack of weight on the rear wheels.

If you get a model with an LSD (track or R-spec) and put studded snow tires + wheels on it you will have a little tank.
