How to clean Intake Valves and Turbo?

I had an issue before where oil was burning on my Bk2 2.0t and it was letting out white smoke from exhaust. That however got fixed.

I’ve been noticing my gas mileage is awful right now at around 17mpg average, the car reads that I have around 280-300 miles till empty on a full tank, when it should really be around 360.

I realized I have a lot of carbon/oil/toxins built up because of the previous issue which maybe the cause of my current gas mileage.

I want to run a CRC Intake Valves & Turbo Cleaner to clean out all toxins but this could possibly also hurt the car if a chunk of carbon is big enough to damage the turbo. Should I just go for it? Or anyone know any other way to basically remove carbon from turbo/intake valves/combustion chamber?

The 2.0 is not Direct Injection, therefore your intake valves are washed with gasoline and do not build up carbon. I would think that a good fuel treatment/injector cleaner would suffice for cleaning on your car. I use CRC Intake cleaner on my '13 3.8 because it is Direct Injection and the intake valves get carbon buildup on them. You may try cleaning your Throttlebody though.

Correct. I have used the CRC on my Veloster N which is GDI and I have the Berryman in my shop for this Fall. The CRC made a huge difference. With MPI I would use Techron or similar. I also use MMO in my tank every two or three tankfulls which seems to keep things running well.

What I would be worried about is oil from the turbo into the IC and up into the intake. May be pooled in the intake and the IC probably has some in it. Hard to clean without disassembly and a lot of solvent I would guess.

I mean my guess is that there is carbon/oil build up just about everywhere inside which may be affecting my fuel economy. Spraying the adhesive, I hope the carbon/oil build up would just keep sliding down till it goes through all the intake system? From turbo to combustion chamber. Hopefully pushing everything out like a waterslide.

With the CRC you can spray it directly into the turbo inlet. The instructions support that and so did my Veloster N. I injected the solvent right into the tube with the air intake removed. The solvent went into my turbo, through my IC and into the engine. No issues. My daughter operated the throttle per the instructions. The Berryman has the injection point into the throttle body.

Yea so ideally this is what I would also want to do. I know the CRC intake valve & Turbo spray is mainly for GDI engines while I believe the bk2 2.0t I have is MPI/Port fuel injection, and I know the gasoline basically cleans the valves. I’m just not sure if I had lots of carbon build up because of the oil issue I had before, I just want to give the whole combustion chamber a good clean yk.

If it’s possibly not a carbon build up issue (since the gasoline does clean up the intake valves in MPI), what else could possibly be causing the bad fuel economy? I’ll look at the condition of the fuel injectors, MAF sensor, air intake, what else should I check?

If you can look at your long term fuel trims. Should be low single digits. + means it's adding fuel, more air and - means it's taking fuel away, too much fuel for the air.

And if you are getting oil at the TB then the IC needs to me off and get flushed.
