This how to will illustrate the steps needed to install the LED Kit from Diode Dynamics without breaking anything.
BTW the stage 3 is ridiculously bright, the dome lights are actually a little TOO bright.

Step 1) License plate bulbs

Image

Push the clip in and pull down (push the clip from the license plate side towards the outside of the car), this one shouldn’t be a problem to take out.

Step 2) Trunk Light
Image

The plastic pops out easily
Image

You should then dismount the light from the electrical plug
Image

I drilled a hole for the LED Wires to go through
Image

Image

Image

Image

Bundle the wires so they aren’t in the way
Image

Test the connection before reinstalling

Step 3) Glove box light
Image

I recommend using an L shaped tool to grab onto the lip and pull straight down, it needs a little force and it will feel like you’re going to break it but it will pop long before the plastic breaks
Image

Image

The plastic connector can twist off, test the connection to ensure proper polarity
Image

Step 4) Vanity light
This one is a bitch to get out, use a blade screw drive and push in from the center of the car outwards to push the metal clip in to release it (see picture)
Image

Image

And once again, test polarity

Step 4) Dome Light
Image

First take out the 2 screws in the sunglasses holder
Image

There are plastic tabs near the dome light button that point towards the rear of the vehicle, this means that you need to pull on the plastic that’s closer to the front of the vehicle FIRST
Image

Image

There are 2 wires that hold the unit in, you can squeeze the clip to release them
Image

Once free you will have to undo 3 screws, and pull on 2 plastic tabs to release the circuit board
Image

Next step is to unscrew the plastic reflector (held in by 1 screw)
Image

Peel off the adhesive plastic and bundle the wires so they are out of the way
Image

Test the connection before reinstalling (**IMPORTANT** Both power connections must be plugged in before the dome lights will light up, also the circuit board must be remounted on the same plastic piece that the sunglasses holder is attached too)

this picture was taken at in broad day light but look at how much light gets reflected off the chairs!!!!!! its too bright for night, it will actually blind you if you turn it on while your driving

EDIT: MORE PICTURES!!!!!!!!
in this one you can see why it will blind you.

Nice Posting - Looking at doing this SOON!

From the comment, I assume you believe the stage 2 lights are bright enough?

Nice write up man. I'm sure this will help a lot of people out.

didn't want to do that because over time from vibration the edge of the metal will cut into the wires and short it out. for electrical wires they should never be running perpendicular to any metal edge (i wouldn't even recommend a plastic edge either)

I'm glad you took the entire dome assembly off. That's what I did. The owners manual said you just pry out the lens, but I just couldn't picture the lens coming off. The dome assembly comes apart pretty easily.

I took the assembly off too, and once it was apart, I saw how the lens are attached, and put it back together. Then I noticed I had a bit of the wire over the light, so I just stuck a flathead into the crack (opposite the side that you push) and popped it right out and fixed it. It is held in by two prongs that fit over two pegs in the assembly, you just need to pull the prongs off the pegs. Also since this is the recommended way by the book, if you break it (within the first year or 12k i think it is) they will replace it for free. I wish I did this the first time because for some reason now, my sunglasses holder doesn't work quite right. I have to push it 4-5 times to get it to finally stay back up. When I get around to it I am going to pop it off and put the stock light back in and take it to the dealer to fix/replace the sunglasses holder unit.

i know this may be directed twards the wrong person, but why not use one of these bulb configurations in the trunk? rather than hacking the lens cover a bit.

yeah, i understand that. just thought there might be other bulb options rather than going to the LED board.

maybe something like this

Image

the best thing to do is use one of these

180 deg dispersion without a lens, 5 or 7 w, you should be able to crank out 200 lumens if driven and heatsinked properly, these bastards get HOT.

Here is something weird! I did my domelights last night and actually took the whole assembly out like the DIY . . I only had 1 wire connecting to my unit NOT 2 like the picture described! Needless to say I took the flashlight and looked arounding thinking I must have yanked it out when taking apart the unit. Nothing . . . . unit works and looks great but keep that in mind for some of you. Not sure why the dome assembly would be different. I have the 3.8 V6 base.

My favorite part of the write-up ^_^

I'm getting ready to do my dome lights... Pop the cover off, or take apart the whole thing?

If I go the pop route, where do you put the flat head into pop it? Front/Back or Inside/Outside? Any suggestions?

#34 ·
I actually followed the instruction manual and popped the cover off. It's quite easy really. No need to remove the entire dome. :)

Just for a review, I bought the stage 2 lights. They are definitely bright enough for the Dome area. However, I thought the Vanity and Trunk could have been brighter. It took me about an hour to install it all. The most trouble I had was the license and glove box. They were kinda a pain to remove since I did it in my garage at night. I highly recommend to do this in the day light outdoors so you know where you are prying the covers off. I also thought the blue was a little too "ricey" for me. Maybe I should've went for white or something else. Otherwise, great product. Everything is working good.

Riddle me this:

I have one of my dome LED's go out when the temp gets hot. I park the car at work and it sits from 9-1 and when I leave at 1 the light doesn't work. I drive for maybe 6 minutes and still off. I park and come back tot eh car in an hour to an hour an a half and it's still off. I leave at 5 and it's still of but about 20 minutes in . . . . ac on blast it works again.

Never an issue on startup in the am

Thoughts?
