My guess is the what kind of wireless connection that they are using for the blulink.

I mean, if they are using cell coverage, its obviously going to be spotty in some places, and I bet more of the negative reviewers are the only ones leaving reviews because they aren't happy.

IMO they should of done some sort of bluetooth type connectivity for such a feature for a backup, if cell connection isn't available. I'm just assuming that they didn't, but could be wrong and no one has figured it out yet. :p

I'm a gadget enthusiast so I approached Bluelink with glee after getting my new TE last week. I'm signed up and good to go. Here are my observations so far:

- It is too expensive. I can't justify anything more than the base package. Here's why:

- There are many redundancies and overlaps between Bluelink and the car's GPS. You can store addresses/POIs in the on-board nav system, making it redundant to pay to do so via Bluelink. Live traffic info can be accessed less expensively without Bluelink via the car's GPS/XM traffic service integration.

- A lot of the nav benefits of Bluelink appear to be addressed to the rental/tourist market; I do not need to pay for restaurant/movie theater/gas station databases for my own home town.

- I can't use the mobile app until they come up with one for a Blackberry. That's an odd omission.

- The drive-radius and valet-radius alarm features are interesting, especially if you have a teenager who has access to your car (I do not) or it is stolen/driven without permission.

- There is definitely a James Bond cool factor to being able to start your car via smartphone, but what are the practical reasons for doing it? In 20 years we'll be able to start our cars remotely and have them drive themselves to where we are standing but until then, this is a semi-useless feature, it seems to me.

In summary, I like playing with this but not paying for it. Too many obvious redundancies, extraneous features and features of dubious value. Again, I'm convinced it's aimed at the high-end car rental/tourist market and by paying for a premium package we are essentially subsidising a beta test. I'm happy to get the base package but there is nothing, or very little, of value in the more expensive packages that is not handled more effficiently by on-board nav tech. The GPS in the 2013 GC is very, very capable, which makes much of Bluelink's functionality an extraneous layer.

I want to be able to turn the car off as well. I park my car in my garage and have the biggest fear that my phone will some how start my car by accident. If I am not home or away it would be a huge issue to have someone go to my house to turn off my car. Am I paranoid???

I just set up my Blue Link today. Maybe the Android app has improved since this thread was started last year, but it worked great for me. Actions done on the phone take about 15 seconds to get to the car. When I used the car location service, it located my car at my neighbor's house. Close enough I guess, maybe because it was in the garage?

My favorite part is trying to call the Blu Link people from my rear view mirror controls. The automated system says, "Thank you for your complimentary trial of Blu Link. Don't forget to add a credit card to double the length of your complimentary trial by staying on after the end of the call." Then it hangs up.

.....awesome

when i was buying my 2013 track coupe M/T, the dealership was telling me all those cool bluelink features +startup from phone... i got so excited, then he corrected himself saying that start up does not work with M/T. He burst my bubble hehe. It takes so long for the features to turn on, like unlock, lock, panic mode. i thought it would be almost instant... but it actually takes from 30s to a minute or so... ;/

Does everybody realize what would happen if a M/T was in gear when remotely started? I hope I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence but I didn't see anyone state this in the thread. Maybe it's my intelligence that I am insulting because everyone else probably already assumed the reason. You would think there could be some sensor that confirms the tranny is in neutral and the e-brake is on.

We may not have Steve Rogers but we do have the technology. We can build it.

My Subaru had both a E-brake sensor and a transmission neutral position sensor. Both were easy enough to tap in to when installing my remote start on a 5spd manual transmission. If the Genesis lacks the neutral position sensor, then that was just Hyundai being cheap.
