Stress Cracked Headlights

My headlights are all cracked up.

Someone at a meet last weekend told me he saw another thread on here with someone it happened to also but I couldn't find it.

I took it into my dealer today and they said I have to bring it back on Thursday to show the Hyundai rep before they can say if they can or can't cover it under warrantee.

My worry is that they are going to come up with some bs saying I put aftermarket bulbs in and heat caused it to crack.

I've had my car longer than most people on the forums so hoping this isn't some defect that starts to effect other people too.

It's happening on both lights.... just two days ago at the meet I was at it was only happening on one light... so it's definitely from the weather warming up after the winter =/

Anyways.. some quick info.. if its happened to anyone else if u can provide pics/info it will be helpful.

- This wednesday will be 1 year since I got my car
- I have the OEM HIDS that come with a track model. I've never switched out the bulbs.
- I've had my bumper off twice in the past year.. but i dont think that would cause this... was only off to install parts and then went right back on.
- I have an aftermarket fmic.. also dont think this would cause any heat near the headlights.
- Car wasn't garage kept last winter.
- I live in chicago so the temp here changes a lot.

Is it the seal that is going too? They look beat to heck. I'd be interested to here if anyone else has had issues

yeah from the pics it looks like it's defective and something to do with poor glass. I wouldn't take a no if that's the answer the dealership tries to give you.

thats crazy talk right there... aftermarket bulbs would do no such thing... even through a simple unbolting of the headlights to replace the bulbs... ive done mine countless times and have no problem whatsoever... i call obvious defect

oem headlights are about $600 each..

tho i know out of the local genesis coupe tuner crowd.... 3 or 4 of us go to that dealer to get serviced... and two purchased from that dealer...

hopefuly they'll just make it right to avoid loosing any business.

also hoping this isnt going to start happening to other people too... if it was just one light i'd say defect.. but both lights i'm thinking.. its could be an issue... and like i said. i've had my car longer than most :(

what harsh solvent could do that? its not melted or anything.. just cracked up... i did get my car detailed recently hmmmmm

but doubtful. anything that strong would have done some damage to my paint.. and my taillights are fine.. they aren't OEM tho and have only been on for about a month.

I'd say that they're both probably defective. Nothing you've done could have caused that, and even if you had changed out your bulbs, that wouldn't be the cause of the issue.

The change in temperature is probably what is causing it, but it shouldn't be. Living in Alberta our weather fluctuates A LOT and my car hasn't been garaged either, but I'm not having those issues (luckily!).

Hopefully the dealer doesn't give you too hard of a time, when you take it back in. If they do, I'd recommend trying another dealership.

did you paint ur bezels black? if so there gonna blame it on that, they'll blame it on anything

How the f*ck are "aftermarket" bulbs going to do THAT to a headlight assembly???

Why is it that most Hyundai service employees are on the verge of being completely useless.
(and I mean this in no disrespect to the forum members we have who are employees)

If it WERE an aftermarket bulb, odds are it would melt the plastic before doing anything else to it...

God people are completely stupid in the automotive industry...

/rant

P.S yes I'm having a bad day in the service industry.. thus giving me full permission to bash it :)

^^^^^ Agreed and +1000000 with lauren's rant lol. Those techs do not know their A** from a hole in a wall sometimes, and mabye it's not even them but their managers and execs that look at the bottom line all the time instead of true customer service.

I have seen the lights first hand and i'll tell you right now that it's not the lights or some other lame excuse they could give her. It is a manufacture defect plain and simple and the bottom line is the dealership should honor it. If that's the case we'll ride up there 10 gens deep and protest :eek:P

Did they let you keep the old ones? :)
