I was set on a mustang gt 5.0 because i have always wanted a v8. I drive an svt focus now which is a good little handler for being wrong wheel drive! I like the power of the v6 but the price is close to the gt. What kind of pwer at thw wheels do both motors make with just a tune? How about tune with intake and exhaust?

For the 2.0T: approximately 185whp stock

Beyond Redline Stage 1:
Reflash+CAI and optional axleback exhaust: +45whp/65wtrq

Beyond Redline Stage 2:
Reflash, CAI, Downpipe, Catback, 550cc injectors, Intercooler, Reflash: +65whp/70wtrq

Beyond Redline Stage 3:
Modified stock turbo, Reflash, CAI, Downpipe, Catback, 550cc injectors, Intercooler, Reflash: +117whp/97wtrq

If I decide to get a Genesis Coupe, I would like to go BR Stage 2 as soon as I get it. That would put me at around 250whp so I wouldn't miss my 2010 WRX too much which is at about 260whp (catback + tune) depending on what dyno you're on.

I was a little surprised when I saw that BR only claims a 20whp/5wtrq increase from Stage 1 to Stage 2 with deleting the 2ndary cat, larger injectors and a FMIC. But I guess once you're Stage 2, you're all prepped up for a turbo upgrade.

@Genny, any reason why u giving a WRX for. Genesis? I would understand that a upgrade if it like a 0y and older but 201p0?
Beside, I think the biggest part that u missed out is the Clutch, the stock Genesis clutch won't hold well after u get Stage 2.

And if u at Stage 2 of BR, u pretty much having the same power as a V6

Yeah, if Hyundai ever drop the Motor of the Sonata Turbo into a Genesis Coupe then GC will really stepping up their game in-terms of stock performance.

And IMO, if u already got money for a Stage 2, rather go another $1500 for a new Clutch and Stage 3 Beyond Redline for a 310 whp....

Hey I agree with u, I mean there always will be a car to compare too. I got an option with buying a brand new car 1 month ago and I went with the Genesis 2:0t. Why? I might not as fast as the other AWD or whatever, but the Genesis is unique all by itself. Not a fan of sSpeed3 cause of the FWD.

And at last, u can't beat the fact that I walked out the door of a dealer ship with a 24 grands car that r RWD, turbo, Brembo and the unique look of it. I mhappy with what I bought.

And of course, couple grands mfor somep more performance can't hurt :)

Links above will help.

That said, if you want 5.0 power, you're better off with the Mustang. I wouldn't fault you at all for buying one. If I had the money right now, I would. They're 99% the performance of an M3 for half the cost.

:gc-smiley-sign-i-ag if I had the $$$ for a brand new 5.0 mustang I would have been all over that rather than my 3.8R-spec but o' well one day I'll be able to afford one.

^They don't have the full stage 3 for the auto's yet but it will be soon and the auto tranny can handle ~350tq before slipping from what I have read and heard from others

My auto has 343 whp with 371 ft lbs....no issues after 4500 miles ;)

^Even better 371ft-lbs hahaha. Yea You DEFINITELY shouldn't have any problems then

thanks for all the info guys.

When does the R spec get released? And what kind of power will it have? Is it going to be a turbo'd 3.8?

I really like the genesis but def need to up the power. I am thinking the 2.0 will be too anemic without pretty good massaging. Turbo and clutch upgrades are not something I want to do out of the gate to reach my goals.

Being my first NEW car I want to retain the warranty for at least awhile.

I have also toyed with the idea of the WRX as for 25k its a very nice package (and I am in love with the widebody).

Decisions, decisions!

I don't know much about the 2.0.

The 3.8 can be had for what, $2.5K more than the 2.0?

I ended up at 290ish rwhp for less than $1K.

But you have more performance for a very slightly higher payment w/ a 3.8, which is easier than dumping thousands in cash up front right after you came up w/ a downpayment for a 2.0.

The 3.8s typically get better mpg, probably due to the more ideal highway gear ratios.

You will maintain your warranty. Isn't that worth thousands alone?

The 3.8s require less oil changes due to the turbo and the higher revs of the 2.0.

The 3.8 will resale for thousands more.

The 3.8 will require less time modifying if your not into working on your new car.

A modified 2.0 might be annoying or loud to drive. Typically the more modified any vehicle becomes, the more of it's comfort features and quietness that is lost.

For these reasons, unless you are building a strictly modified race car, I'd go w/ the 3.8.

:gc-smiley-sign-i-ag 110%. All my previous cars were forced induction and it takes a lot of money to really let everything run the way you want it to. Obviously, this is also a double edged sword. The more tinkering, the risk of things going unplanned rises. All in all, the 3.8 is definitely a car that comes out the way you like it with minimal needs. just my opinion though. It's almost like I'd rather make it look good as supposed to performance, and I have never thought like that ever!

If you want performance, get a Mustang GT. They really aren't that more expensive compared to a 3.8. A base GT is around the same price as a Track Genesis, maybe even less. If we're talking Boss 302 and not GT, then that's quite a bit of a difference in price and should probably be compared more to a G37 or 370z. If looking used, you can even throw corvettes in there.

If you're afraid of doing more than I/H/E and want big power, get the V6.
If you're afraid of doing more than I/H/E and don't care about big power get the 2.0T
If you're shooting for ~300whp it's a toss up, as after mods they are essentially the same price when you add in the extra $3K base price of the V6.
If you're shooting for 300whp-400whp and don't want to use nitrous or crack the engine open, get the 2.0T as it'll be cheaper.
If you're shooting for 450+ and want a broad autox friendly powerband, get the V6.
If you're shooting for 450+ and don't mind a little turbo lag you can get the 2.0T there cheaper
If you need an auto and want good MPG, get the V6. 2.0T manual gets the best mileage of all.
If you want an auto and an easy 350whp, get the 2.0T
