So i painted my tail bezel black a couple weeks ago...
painted the whole bezel including the flasher reflector

at night the flasher was perfectly lit... in bright daylight not so much, only a tiny bulb barely visible

so i decided to have the smaller brake light be the flasher but still being a constant light while not flashing
total cost around: 15$

bought some 5 pin relay (spdt) and wired this all up under 1h
Amazon.com: Absolute RLS125 12-VCD Automotive Relay SPDT 30/40A: Electronics

Downside:
the flashing is off from the other flasher but its not really noticeable (unless you insist on keeping the amber flasher, but a red flasher is totaly legal)
the relay make a bit of noise but nothing annoying
cant lock my door if flasher is still on when i turn off the car (took me a a couple minutes to figure this out... but easily avoidable...)

here the result
will test out tomorrow in the daylight

the inner red light isn't a brake light.. depending on the market (non-USDM) it's actually the rear fog lamp. It's technically a marker light since it only comes on when the car's headlamps or DRL's are active. Press the brake pedal sometime and watch the back lamp.. the inner one doesn't get any brighter.

You could have just rewired your taillamp so the amber bulb was also wired to the inner one and just disconnect it's original wiring... would have been much easier. If you wanted you could have even changed out the amber bulb for a white one and gave yourself a bigger and brighter backup lamp by wiring it with the backup lamp instead. Loads you could really do without affecting the legality of it for some different and cool effects.

was more of a practical mod than for looks, but still, i like the result
thanks for you input

I wonder if we could use Snoopy's idea of using the OEM flasher's wiring to make the red light the flasher, but I think it' wouldn't be on when not flashing, needs a constant ON, unlike the flasher.

But I personally love the look of the inner red light flashing. The LED bulb for the rear flashers aren't visible from a distance in the day light.

to keep it always on when not flashing, relay is the only way i could think of....

when i did some test, i wired the flasher wiring straight to the inner light and it worked and was easy to do... but didnt look so good without the inner light on

+1 for originality. I love this type of stuff

after testing in full sunny daylight... its more more visible than amber flasher...

and you cant really notice the noise of the relay while driving... just ear it a bit at stop light like stock flasher relay

added a second backup light:

my oem flasher bulb were not used since i did this mod with flasher...
so i decided to rewire the oem flasher to the backup light
and installed some white leds bulb to have two backup lights

leds are pretty weak so this should help with visibility a bit as this bulb is much bigger
will try it next spring as the car is stored
next project : headlights

and just a side note about the flasher mod with relay...

you need to leave your car always on headlight ON or Daylight ON
or else your flasher wont work...
its not a big problem for me didnt use AUTO anyways
and when i drive at night i just turn the headlight on... thats it
