if you use one without o rings, people recommend using some sort of sealant.

You need to make sure you have a good seal there other wise you will have a boost leak and cause your turbo to work harder to create boost

The seller nickel_sport on ebay has one with o-rings. I use it with no problems. I messaged Wyntomn to see if the back side had o-rings but he never responded so I went with nickel_sport.

I used a plain block off plate before. Just cut out a paper gasket for it.

 

I've also used plain block off plates..I used black RTV as a sealant.

 

if you use a spray bottle with soap, you will see a regular block off plate without any kind of sealant will leak.

 

Well comone sense is metal with metal wont seal 100%. Thats why the engine cover, head, exhaust pieces ect have gaskets...

 

It would probably take a half hour to make one with simple tools.

 

The reason the head has a gasket isn't because its metal to metal...It's more because of the heats it creates tends to make those metals flex enough to need the gasket to compensate. However, I don't see why the cheap plate is any different than the forge adapter, other than the o-rings. Which to me can be made with the above mentioned rtv, or paper gasket.

I still think I will be going with the forge, and probably upping the ante with some rtv!

RTV should be used if nothing else is. Paper or Orings do the job without any messy silicone.

 

I bought a red one from EuroExport for $20. It is nice and thick with the O rings.

 

...unless you strip a bolt hole on the butter-soft housing.

 

Use a 1/4-28 SAE bolt in it's place. No tapping required.

Did that on my ATX pan back in the day. Just apply straight in force when you thread it in. Don't over tighten.
